I’ve been reading this forum for a while to help gather tips on trying to be the best bun mom I possibly can, but since the passing of my beloved Bun Bun Chan last night, I felt I should finally become a member.

Last night we sadly lost our beloved Netherlands Dwarf, Bun Bun Chan, to kidney failure. It happened so quickly and she showed absolutely no signs until the 4th, where she spent two nights at the hospital before passing on her own, just moments before I could walk into the vet’s door. She was extremely sassy and loved to be a 100%, absolute diva, so I know that going out on her own is what she wanted.

She left behind her bonded partner, Oswald, who is also a Netherlands Dwarf and 7 years her junior. He was very distraught at the vet’s office when he said his goodbyes. They were very close in the short time they spent together. They were also very close with all of our cats in the house, grooming and taking naps with them.

My vet talked to me about how he will go through a grieving period and the benefits of eventually getting him another friend. He’s slept with me on my bed and has constantly come to wake me up and give me kisses since her nights away from us and her passing.

How can I make this easier for him? How can I try to introduce a new friend into his life when we’re both ready?

Bun Bun was my first pet and it’s been very devastating.

Im sorry for your loss, its never easy, make sure you take care of yourself and Oswald. Make sure he continues to eat and if not, give critical care. make sure you spend lots of time with him and when you feel that you and him are ready, you can get him a friend but don’t jump to it if you aren’t ready, you and him need to grieve.

So very sorry. It’s never easy but the first ones seem especially difficult, devastating as you put it. I relate. You are in my thoughts.
