So this morning I was grooming boo, and after I put her down. I notice she had a bit of a white patch on her back. I know this is probably because I brushed her too much, but better safe than sorry. I put a picture in, though it’s not very good because she wouldn’t stop moving. The fur is just very thin there as well. I also noticed that has dandruff-like tiny white specks all over. They were too small to capture in a picture but any advice would be appreciated.

Is the white patch scaly/flaky in appearance? I cannot tell too much from the photo. It looks like bald area with normal skin.

Some buns will get bald patches when shedding out fur. Some will have some dry skin.

If it’s particularly flaky, it could be fur mite.
This is usually treated with ivermectin or Revolution (selamectin).

No the skin seems normal. I’m pretty certain that I was just brushing too in that spot.
Are fur mites life threatening? I read the article you linked but it didn’t really specify if they’re fatal or dangerous at all. Now that I’ve read a bit about them I’m pretty certain that Boo does have fur mites. Do I need to bring her to a vet or can I treat her at home? Where could you buy the ivermectin?

I think the only danger with fur mites is that they can cause damage/infection to the skin from all the scratching they cause.

Any vet would have Revolution but many vets will want to see him first before prescribing. Some vets will even measure out the exact dose based on weight which is helpful.

Thanks! Will tell vet at her next appointment. How long do you think will it take for the patch to grow back? Or does it vary from rabbit to rabbit?
