** RIP CALI **
I adopted 7 year old rescue cat Cali (along with 4 yr old Jess) last Jan 2017.
She was so, so timid. Never agressive.
She came out of her shell to be a wonderful, affectionate, fantastic companion. Wherever I went she was not far behind.
In winter she became a very effective head-warmer in bed, curling up literally on TOP of my head, just after her nightly ritual of bringing me a small fluffy toy in her mouth..
Following a vaccine for rabies/FeLV a few weeks ago, she became quiet and not eating properly. If I have any regrets, it is that I did not spot her lack of appetite earlier. (Having 2 cats it is never easy to see how much each cat is eating. I know that this will not have changed the end result, but she may have suffered less, or I may have caught her anemia earlier and stopped it in its tracks giving her a few months more of good quality life…). Alas, I cannot turn back the clock.
Last week, she was diagnosed with Feline Leukemia Virus, a nasty, killing machine, HIGHLY contagious within the cat community through, bites (fights) and saliva (grooming between housemates). Having been a street cat for probably all her life (but indoor cat since being with me), we tested her last year, and she tested negative. A negative test, unfortunately, does not mean a cat is not a carrier.
I know the last year of her life with us was the best end of a (probably crap) life a cat could wish for.
She died peacefully in my arms this morning.

I still remember when you adopted them (I still have a little laugh to myself whenever someone says either of the words strainer or drainer.I know Az! I do too.
For those unaware, Cali was originally named by the rescue as Passoire, which in French means Strainer, as she was giving birth to kittens through the engine of a car and they were dropping through to the ground…. So my two new rescue cats were temporarily named by BB members as Strainer and Drainer.
Strangely enough, the names didn’t stick !!!….

Poor Cali xxx At least she died peacefully and in your arms, I hope that brings some small comfort. Hugs xxx
