So I have a bunny that I’ve had for a week and she was doing good but yesterday night I gave her pellets for the first time since I Got her And she got super bloated and I gave her some infant gas relief drops and in less than 30 minutes it went down. But then when I put her in her cage for the night she’s got Bloated again and I gave her more of the infant gas relief drops an hour after the first dose, in the morning she was OK like normal eating her hay and drinking lots of water. And in the morning I gave her cilantro like I have been since Ive had her and she got bloated again! I’m taking her to the vet again in a few hours but I want to see what it could be??

It seems her tummy had a hard time digesting the pellets (that could still have been the reason for the grassiness the next day). Buns have a delicate microbial balance in their cecum, and things like new food and stress can upset that balance. It could be that this type of pellets is unsuitable for her (for example soy is an ingredient that doesn’t always agree with buns’ tums). It could be that you need to introduce pellets more slowly, just a tiny bit per serving, divided up into 2 servings per day. But now when her tummy is upset, I think Id cut out the pellets altogether, at least for a while.

That the gas drops helped is a very good sign.

Does she eat hay? Hay is the best thing for the microbes in the bunny gut.

thanks, the vet said that maybe the person that had her maybe used different pellets and i used different ones. I always giver her unlimited hay in he cage and she eats lots of it too! she hasnt got bloated again but the vet said it was fine to give her more of the gas drops. I gave her the oxbow for young rabbits pellets, i hear dit was one of the best. I have her a few yesterday and she did fine. Do you think she still needs pellets even though i give her critical care twice a day?

Yes, that sounds like a likely explanation. It’s great that she’s eating lots of hay! As long as she’s getting the Critical Care she won’t need pellets, but when she’s ready to come off the Critical Care you could slowly taper down the Critical Care portion size and add a little bit of pellets instead so get used to the pellets slowly.

Oxbow for young rabbits is excellent.

Haha, welcome to the bunny ownership club, here’s your official “I’m absolutely delighted to see poop!”-pass

Hope she gets well soon! Besides the gas drops you can also help her to pass gas by gently massaging her tummy.
                    This video explains it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbyC6CWbm5M

Haha, I have a small bun too, it already helps if you put their rear up (so the gas can escape). If you gently massage her tummy, she’ll likely pass the gas quickly.
