Okay, so my 1 year old giant flemmie stole a bag of oxbow treats. The freeze dried banana slices, she ate all of them (it was brand new), and also ate the corner of the bag and the front where she opened it. What should I do? Should I be more concerned about the bag or the sugar? She is almost 17 lbs so she is a big bun. Thanks.

What was the weight of the bag?

I would be most concerned about the sugar, but hopefully since she’s a big bun, it won’t do her much harm.

Keep encouraging hay consumption, and if she stops eating or pooping, it’s time for the vet.

It’s likely that she’ll have some sticky poops after this incident, but hopefully that will be the worst of it.

Hopefully she would have chewed the packaging well, bunnies normally chew things like that well, but if she swallowed a large chunk, it could also cause a blockage.

So keep a close eye on her eating and pooping basically!

Keep an eye. If she loses her appetite or doesn’t produce any poop, contact a vet within 6-8 hours or less. She might get sticky poop from the sugar. That’s “normal” under the circumstances and not an emergency. If she gets poopy butt, you can give her a butt bath.

Because she’s so big I don’t think you need to be very worried. She probably chewed the pieces of the bag thoroughly before she swallowed. That’s the good thing when buns eat what they shouldn’t, they don’t swallow big chunks of things like dogs and cats do. So must non-food passes through the rabbit gut without causing a blockage.

Whoa! The whole bag! Banana Bandit! And I thought Bun was Miss Mischief for breaking into her Oxbow Timothy Hay Cranberry Treats!
Oxbow must be doing something right because Buns love em!
Glad your bun is ok… very very beautiful! And that’s a lot of bun to hug! Wow! ?
