Hi everyone, my name is Nicole & I just love this site! I got my girls 2 bunnies June (born in May 2017) and found the other in front of my house shortly after. Assuming he got loose of someone let him go. We finally saves him from harm & he’s been here ever since. Also, found out from the girl who gave us our other 2 that the new one was a sibling from the same litter! (How neat) They are all flemish Giant mixes. Their names are Meepers, Chico Bob and Smooshy Mooshy Meepers must have more Flemish Giant in him because he is huge & not even one yr old yet. We have had to change his cage at least 4x already. Right now he is in an xxl top opening cage & will have to use a kennel if he grows more, lol. He jumps out of his cage, onto his pet steps & wanders around going back in when he’s ready. Meep & Chico Bob are molting so I have read a little about that. Smoosh hasn’t started yet but I’m assuming all bunnies do, not yet sure. I don’t have any real major problems but I do have a few concerns. My Chico Bob’s eyes water alot & get crusty. I have heard that alot of bunnies have issues with that but is there anything I can do to help him? Another concern I have, after reading a few posts here. Food. I fill a medium size bowl up with pellets in the morning & it lasts at least 2 days. I also give them a mix of greens at night & some hay periodically. They don’t seem to enjoy alfalfa cubes at all. My friend got several bales of hay & gave me 2 & they’ve lasted a while but I’m almost out & unsure of what to get or where. In their greens I give them cilantro, parsley, spinach, green leaf lettuce, Boston lettuce & mint. I throw in some kale or cabbage at times & also give them 2 mini carrots & an apple slice every night (sometimes blueberries, strawberries, bananas, etc substitute the carrots to mix it up) I know the fruits are supposed to be limited but my bunnies are bigger than most. I also have 2 teenage daughters (13 & 18), 3 cats, a dog & a turtle, lol. We are animal lovers for sure. I hope this isn’t too long but I wanted to thoroughly introduce myself & maybe hopefully get some new tips/advice. Thanks everyone

Hello and welcome to Binky Bunny! Regarding diet, rabbits should have unlimited hay, that’s the most important part of their diet. Any grass hay would be fine – timothy, orchard grass, oat hay, are some of the more popular hays.

Since your rabbits are almost a year old, they would need to follow the diet of an adult rabbit. Pellets are limited by weight of the rabbit. Do you know your rabbit’s weights? One rule of thumb is 1/4 to 1/2 a cup daily per 6 pounds of rabbit. You can find other feeding charts. You can read about diet here – https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/tabid/53/CategoryID/2/PID/940/Default.aspx. There is also a lot of other good information on the BUNNY INFO link that is at the top of the page.

It sounds like your bunny with the weepy eye needs a vet visit. Do you have a good, rabbit savvy vet in your area? He could have a slight respiratory problem and need some medication.

Do you plan to bond all of your rabbits? They will have to all be spayed and neutered before you can attempt that.

You have a very cute trio of rabbits!

Hi! Meepers is a cute name . Agree with tobyluv that hay should be unlimited, and pellets limited. I order Luna’s hay in bulk online because it is cheaper than buying the smaller bales sold at the store.
