The vet gave us probiotics for Dasher’s poop issues and it really seems to have helped her. I wonder, is this only a temporary solution? When she’s done with the probiotic will she go back to the wierd poop or will her gut slowly fix itself? The vet couldn’t find anything wrong with her so I’m wondering if there is an underlying issue I should be concerned about.

I think it depends on the bun. I’ve given Luna benebac a couple times (for about 3 days each time), and it clears up her soft cecals for weeks. I’m pretty sure Wick was on a probiotic for over a month when he was last on antibiotics?

I’ve been giving Bombur Benebac for about a month or two now, and it has honestly done his gut wonders. He gets frequent GI issues, so being on a probiotic has really helped, and I don’t think I’ll ever be going back. Even the vet commented on Saturday he seemed much healthier than usual.

Well I think there is an underlying condition. Last night she had small dark poops and today I found a lot of smashed cecals stuck all over her rug. Should I giver her pellets and veggies today or not?

If the pellets and veggies are ones that she’s used to and has been eating for a long time, then it would be ok to continue to give them to her. Has she been eating a good amount of hay, or less than usual?

I’ve continued to give her pellets and veggies like usual and she eats lots of hay like always. Her poop is better but she still has some weird poop. The vet couldn’t find anything wrong with her and he couldn’t find anything in her poop either. Is she just going to have weird poop the rest of her life? I’m worried because I don’t know whats wrong with her and I don’t want anything to happen to her.

Would you be able to post a pic of the weird poop next time you see it? When you say she still has some weird poop, does she also have normal poop in her litter box as well?

I have always been a pretty big proponent of probiotic, just as influenced by Wick’s vet, but after hearing the opinion of Oxbow’s vet, and also looking into myself, it actually seems like a lot of probiotics out there may not have actual probiotic properties for rabbits, but they help because they provide some additional “fuel” for them. http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/GI_diseases/Probiotics/probiotics.htm

There are days and times where I forgot to give Wick his probiotic twice a day, and things like that, but I never really saw a difference one way or the other.

But yes, naturally, the gut biome should build itself back up as the rabbit continues to eat hay and such, and if that does not happen, re-assessing of diet and medical conditions may be needed.

Yes I can post a picture of her weird poop tomorrow. Most of her poop is normal I’m just worried because it hasn’t gone completely back to normal.

She is currently getting Harrison’s Fauna Flora as a probiotic. She gets 1/4 teaspoon in her food every day. Do you know if it’s a good probiotic?
