I’m going to be getting a holland lop in a few weeks and I want to make sure I have a decent sized cage and safe space for the little guy.

Would this be a good size cage and could I make it a safe space by covering it with a blanket

Or should I go with a hutch like this

The little guy would only be in there for the 9.5 hours I’m away at work. Otherwise he would have mostly free roam of my bedroom.

Is this a foster or yours?

The first one looks better to me, although it seems like an expensive way of buying it. I would just buy a couple of pens to be honest and make sure he had hidey boxes (cardboard) etc in there.

This one will be mine and will eventually (hopefully) be bonded with Harley and Thumper. The cages I used for Harley and Thumper were way too small and I don’t want to repeat that again.

Perhaps you could use one of Harley or Thumper’s old cages as a base, within a larger XPen?

Both of my boys are in the Living World Deluxe XL Habitats (1 for each). They can stretch out comfortably, periscope just fine, and there’s a little shelf thing they love to nap and sit on top of, the shelf also makes a little cave they can go in if they want privacy. I’d say it takes them 4 hops to get across it.

I think I’ll go with A&B’s suggestion, the old cages I feel are just too small, Harley and Thumper didn’t really have room to stretch out in them.

So I plan on putting the cage between the shelf and the desk. Do I need to worry about the AC and heater right being behind the cage?

Understanding that space might be an issue, but I wouldn’t suggest placing the cage directly in front of the AC and heater…maybe move the desk over and then place the cage on the other side. It’s best to keep them out of the way of air flow as they don’t like drafts and they are really sensitive to heat.
