        hello everyone!!

i’ve posted a few times on the bb forums (mostly me worrying about all kinds of things ) but i’ve never actually introduced myself, so i figured it was about time!

my name is hannah, i live in minnesota and i work at the animal humane society! we’re one of the largest shelters in the midwest and i absolutely love my job. i’ve been there for almost 6 months, and ever since i started i took an interest in our small critter area, and now i’m the “critter person” at work. i’m totally okay with that!

work is also where i found my two bunnies, flapjack and maple! i adopted flapjack first, on dec. 5 2017. he’s about 7-8 months old and he’s literally *amazing*. every bunny savvy person who has met him has told me i’m so extremely lucky and spoiled to have found him for my first rabbit. he’s incredibly inquisitive and social and he loves other rabbits. the moment he got to my home he was binkying all over the place and chin marking me, and he’s never been nervous or scared. he’s not super cuddly and he can be quite mischievous, but he’s still really amazing~

here he is in all of his glory. (btw, does anyone have any idea what breed he could be? at the shelter he was listed as a lionhead/dwarf mix but…eh. he’s small at 3lbs but he doesn’t look anything like a netherland dwarf.)

maple is my second bun; i brought her home to bond with flapjack. they’re still in the bonding process but things are going so so so well! she’s a bit more timid than flapjack, but she’s still very social and she’s a bit more cuddly! she likes to hop up on my chest when he’s bothering her too much  (like when he’s trying to mount and she’s had enough of that for one day.) i technically haven’t *adopted* her yet (when you work at the shelter you can bring an animal home for 7 days before you adopt to make sure its going to all work out) but I plan on doing so on Friday! she’s so sweet and gorgeous and she’s really coming out of her shell. i think she’s a bit over 1 year old (according to her paperwork.)

she’s obviously a lionhead (mix??) but she’s not as fluffy as other pictures of lionheads i’ve seen. do you guys think she’s purebred and in some stage of molting, or is she a mix? i don’t really care either way but i have been curious

also, here they are together, featuring some silly facebook stickers added by me:

anyways, i’m glad to be here on BB! in my experience so far i’ve gotten a ton of great advice and i can’t wait to meet all of y’all!

Welcome to BB Hannah! Super awesome to meet you. Your buns are ADORABLE. You’re right, Flapjack doesn’t look much like a dwarf or lionhead at all, though maybe the face shape of a dwarf. His ears (those adorably enormous ears) are too big for it. Maple could be a mix but some lionheads don’t really have manes as promiment as others. Because she’s completely full grown I don’t think her mane is going to get much bigger (my lionhead Ginny had a full mane by 3 months) so I could be wrong but it looks like she’ll stay her perfectly adorable self.

thank you serenity!! flapjack’s ears are ginormous, aren’t they?! they’re so silly. your buns are simply gorgeous! i love ginny’s coloring, and she’s so insanely fluffy! i’m inclined to think maple is some kind of mix, as she doesn’t really have a skirt either (just a little in the back.)

Hi Flapjack and Maple!! So adorable!

The dwarfism gene can only exist in one copy in a bunny, so when a dwarf rabbit has kits, only half of them will (statistically) inherit the dwarfism gene. That means a bun can even be the offspring of two dwarf buns and still not get the dwarfism gene. (If a bunny gets two dwarf genes, it can’t survive). So Flapjack could technically absolutely be a dwarf mix. But to further complicate things, in some places mini or Holland lops are called dwarf lops, so dwarf sometimes just means small. Whatever he is, he’s gorgeous.

Maple looks like a lionhead mix to me. If she’s young, her mane might become more full with time. Or she’ll just go on looking like this, and just be super-cute anyway =) Her mane reminds me of our member Q8bunny, her Chewie has a mane like that.

bam: the buns say thank you for the compliments! he did have one brother, who looked very similar except his points were reddish instead of gray. he was surrendered by his owners who had an oopsie litter, and im assuming they said he was lionhead/dwarf. so perhaps his parents were mixed breeds as well and he inherited giant ears somewhere down the line. i’m assuming now that maple is a mix, as she’s a year old so she’s more than likely done growing. i still think shes gorgeous! i cant get over her beautiful agouti coloring!

tobyluv: thank you so much! they’re doing very well together! i put maple’s cage on my bed when i have her out so she can easily get in to use the litter box (she hasn’t been on the floor yet, still need to make sure she’s potty trained and i’d rather get pee stains on my blanket than the carpet lol) and flapjack will hop in to eat her hay (he is a giant piggy) and she’s totally fine with that.

Your bunnies are really cute. Maple looks a lot like my bunny who is lionhead/ Holland lop.

cocoa: thank you so much! i never considered that she may be a lop mix!

garfy: thank you as well! its hard to not rescue when you work at a shelter, but now my only problem is i want to take home more and more and more… (there’s the sweetest netherland dwarf who likes cat toys at work right now, but GAHHH)
