Hello – since the search function is not available, am posting this question:  I am contemplating a digging box and was curious for general feedback from you all if you have used it with your buns.  I saw digging boxes or platforms both on Small Pet Select and on Etsy – prices were comparable.

Our Oreo digs at our area rug constantly, which I’ve had to cover with a towel (I tuck it under the rug) so he can’t destroy it.  But I think he needs something to dig – looking for suggestions.  Thanks!

A digging box is a great idea! A lot of members here (myself included) have used a cardboard box with the tape removed and filled it with wads of paper or newspaper. But a commercial one would be good too . When Luna was younger, she would also tear to shreds phonebooks. Just make sure that whatever you use Oreo doesn’t start eating it!

My digger really likes cardboard cat scratchers! Somehow they satisfy that urge to chew the carpet.

Great idea, thanks! Will try the cardboard route first before buying a commercial one

Some people buy a large storage container and dump paper shreddings or some sort of sand in them.

I saw a post recently where someone filled a box with plastic balls for their bun to dig in!

My bun has never taken an interest in any of the digging boxes I’ve made/given him, but he will “dig” a fleece blanket for hours!

Update: I tried the homemade route for digging box – cardboard box with paper, both crumbled and shredded. That’s a no-go. Super disinterested in that – little stinker goes back to the carpet on the floor! I spent more time trying to show him how to use it LOL. This may sound silly but if I were to give him extra fleece to dig do I just put a couple of blankets in the corner of his home-base? or in the corner of the room?

Yeah, probably best to just experiment and see where he takes an interest in digging! I put mine in the corner where he usually likes to dig, but since then he’s scrabbled it out of there & now associates the blanket with digging rather than the carpet! So now I just leave it on the floor & he attacks it whenever he gets the urge. I’d maybe start with putting them around the key digging spots (your rug, or corners) & watch him, then adapt accordingly

I just put several blankets in a pile under a table that Buttercup liked to lay under and she had a whale of a time
