so as some of you may know i have a small farm and i do 4-h but now with the goats and cows and chickens i am doing breeding! so i am getting a new pair of birds tomorrow and i am going to be breeding them i have aa broody hen, or a hen who is ready to hatch eggs and an incubator so i am going to test both of those methods of hatching eggs and then i will have some chicks!! i have an existing hen, misty and she is the same breed, a Belgian bearded D’Anvers so i am going to have some bantam chicks on my hands. i will post pictures of the parents and updates on the eggs waiting to hatch and then pictures of the chicks.

        background on chickens:

        hens-females

        roosters-males

21 days-how long it takes eggs to hatch

        chicks-babies!!!!!!

        that is just some basics!

chicken is just a RELATIVE term for any gender bird of that species.

I was thinking because of the forest theme and the fact they’re brown they could be named after trees?
Is that a little too obvious? Haha I kinda like it, so like Alder, Hawthorn, Hazel, Oak, Willow?

sorry is should have said that my parents made me name them the night we got them the female is Rain and the male is Hickory. my parents wanted to name them Beech and Ash (pun intended)
                          but i love the suggestions

                          @bam thanks!
@garfythelop not too obvious at all i was considering willow for the female!

They are. I really those names. My only suggest was Fern. I obviously I like Maple too, because of my bunny, Maple (RIP).
BM, you can save some name ideas for any new hens.

I use to have 2 isa brown chickens called Saffron and Sienna. Jersey used to go down and greet them through the fence every day. : )

i was thinking fern too but it just isn’t her personality, i like maple too. and i will defiantly keep these name as future reference. in other news my incubator is up and running with 2 eggs in it so far. one is most likely from my Red Cochin, the other is most likely from my wheaten Old English Game Hen i also think there is a second egg from the OEG. chickies will most likely hatch on the 21 of February

signs of life in 3 out of 4 eggs when candled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the egg that i cant see anything in has a thicker seeming shell  than the other. i have a fifth egg I’m waiting to put in the incubator until i get another 1.

I will defiantly post pics when the chicks hatch
