I’m trying to teach my rabbit Scout some tricks, so far he’s doing well! What are some good, helpful tricks to teach a rabbit? Do you have any tips for training?

I taught Ophelia a few tricks when I first got her, I think it actually helped us to bond. I taught her to spin when I say “circle” and I also would take big large steps and trained her to hop between my legs with each step.

Be consistent and reward immediately are my only suggestions. They are quite smart little buggers and will catch on quick!

My rabbits know some tricks or I guess you can call it that. I mainly taught my rabbits to understand words. Like if I say the word in they’ll go into their cage or if I say bunnies that means I have a treat and they’ll come runnin’ lol but mainly the only real trick I taught them was walking on the hind legs. I haven’t done that though in like 8 months lol also if your trying to teach your rabbits how to know what the words mean for instance if your trying to say bunnies which means treats continually whenever your about to give him it say bunnies for awhile then give it to him he’ll eventually catch on or if your try to teach him the word in what you do is you pick him up and put him in the cage and say in for awhile (I think that’s how I did it but I’m not so sure) he’ll catch on soon enough.

I’d love to teach Sam to go in his cage when I say so! Though I can usually tempt him with a handful of greens Can you teach them to come when they’re called?

I find it a little more difficult to train by name, using words I think is a little harder for them to understand. Maybe that’s just because I went with a ridiculous name (Ophelia) lol.

Unintentionally, I trained Ophelia to come running when I make little kissy sounds. I would just make that sound when I hand fed her pellets and greens and now if she hears it she bolts over to me with her “TREATS” face

I agree, it’s much easier to teach a rabbit a sound (like a kissy noise) to come running than their name. It depends on the rabbit but Olaf comes running every time I make a “click” sound because I used it to train him. A lot of people do clicker training with dogs but the little mechanism used to make the clicking sound is usually too loud for bunnies.

As for helpful tricks, “go home” into their cage or hutch is a good one for when you need to put them inside at night or when you leave the house. I’ve also taught spin, go to bed, paw (which is more like both paws at once) and jump. It’s a great way to bond with your bunny!

                    Go to bed

                    – that’s adorable!

Sams own favourite “trick” is to tip over glasses of water… Literally any glass you leave lying around he will get his teeth over the top & knock over the whole thing! He’s got water in his bottle AND his bowl, daft little fluffball <3

I’m guessing it depends a lot on the bun, but how long does it typically take for them to learn a trick when you’re training them?
