I got my bunny spayed a couple hours ago and she still doesnt seem to want to eat. She only took a tiny bite of a treat. How long does it usually take for them to start eating a bit?

It’s normal for a newly spayed doe to not have an appetite. That she took a tiny bit of a treat is a very good sign!

You should not go to bed for the night until she’s eaten sth more substantial. If she won’t eat o her own, you’ll have to syringe feed her. You can feed her pellet mush, i.e pellets soaked in water.

Make sure she keeps warm. Buns can get hypothermia after surgery, and need warming up. A hot water bottle or hand warmers are good, but she must have enough space to move away from the heat if she doesn’t want it.

More or less whatever she wants to eat today is good, so if she eats treats, she can have them. Fresh herbs (parsley, cilantro, dill etc) could perhaps also interest her.

The vet told to stop feeding her at 8 pm yesterday, which was weird cause rabbits dont need to fast before a spay but hes a great doctor! So its been around 25 hours already with no food. How much longer should i wait before i syringe feed her?

I would try fruit, like banana, pineapple, apple, pear and strawberries.

Was she sent home with any pain meds? If not, you should ask your vet for some. Some vets don’t provide take home pain meds but they really should as it’s quite a big operation.

She started eating some lettuce and banana! Only problem is that she cant really eat on her own because she has a cone on. I asked the vet if ill need pain meds and he said i wont need it. She doesnt really seem to be in pain. Also should i worry cause she still hasnt pooped yet?
