My rabbit olaf was sneezing a little while ago and now he suddenly stopped, could he have allergies?

My rabbit started sneezing randomly and I was worried about him so I was planning on a vet trip but something came up my mother had to go to nova Scotia for a while and my dad still had to work, so we had to stay at our grandmother’s house and I didn’t get to make an appointment. Now I’m back home and my mother is coming back today so now I can make the appointment, but now he stopped sneezing, he seems healthy and he seems fine, could he be allergic to somthing? Should I still make an appointment with the vet?

How frequent was the sneezing before?

My thought is if it’s gone away, it could have been just some irritation. If it comes back, clean the environment. If nasal discharge occurs and the frequency goes up, schedule a vet appt to discuss a potential URI.

The sneezing wasn’t too frequent but it was enough to worry me. Near the last time I heard him sneeze he had a small amount of nasal discharge, but even that’s gone too! I checked his paws and there was no matting or crusty stuff at all.

At the time of the sneezing were any products used? Air fresheners, chemical floor soaps, parfumes…? Buns may be sensitive to a lot of stuff, so that might be it.
Mine’s sensitive to dust, so if I slack off cleaning for a day or two he gets the sneezing on!

I don’t have the best memory, but I remember using a lavender spray to clean his new cage when he peed on the floor.

I use wood chips for his litter but I think I started using wood chips before he started sneezing.

For what its worth, most woodchips are really bad for rabbits and can cause infections, including upper respiratory infections which causes sneezing.

I’ve been using wood pellets for a couple years. Those for stoves, of course the kind without additives and 100% natural wood. They’re cheap and work fine

Also, to clean his cage/bowl/bottle/litter tray you can use a mixture of 3 parts warm water, 1 part white vinegar (+ a teaspoon of baking soda if you want). It cleans, desenfects and kills pee smell And it’s bun safe

Thank you so much! I just found out that the wood shaving I use can actually be harmful for him, and I am changing it right away!

And I will be buying wood pellets instead
