My bunny who is currently about five to six months old is going to start transitioning from Oxbow alfalfa pellets to Timothy pellets. I’m super confused. Right now Rain gets a fourth or less of alfalfa pellets. On the back of the Oxbow bag it says to transition by starting with one fourth new and three fourths old. Does this mean one fourth new out of a fourth? Like a fourth of a fourth? Or does it mean a fourth of a cup? Because that seems like a lot more than what I give my rabbit. Basically how much do I transition for my rabbit?

Do the same amount in total, but think of it less formally. Start with mostly alfalfa, transition to mostly timothy, then all timothy.

In the end, the quantity will not change, just it will be all Timothy instead of alfla

Yep, basically I take that as saying take 1/4 of the alfalfa serving that you give and replace that portion with timothy.

So starting out would be 1 serving comprised of 1/4 timothy, 3/4 alfalfa

then down the road 1/2 alfalfa 1/2 timothy, then 1/4 alfalfa 3/4 timothy and so on.

My buns were at 1/4 cup pellets around then too. So basically for every few days, take 1 tablespoon of alfalfa pellets and change it into Timothy.

Okay thanks guys! I’m going to have to be doing it at five day periods because I don’t think I have enough alfalfa pellets left to sustain me for the week long periods. I’m going to try to do it as slow as possible though. I don’t want to buy another bag of alfalfa pellets because that would just be a waste of money and food. And he’s been having slightly chalky pee because of the extra calcium in the alfalfa.

If you have enough to do the transition over 2.5-3 weeks then I wouldn’t worry about getting another bag. It would be a waster if you did!

Hmm, I think it will last me two to three weeks. That should work. Thank you so much BunNoob!
