Our baby boy Moose crossed the bridge New Years Day. I’ve already written about how this all happened in another thread… but I wanted to put down some happy memories of him, as I feel like all my posts about him have been related to his health.
Moose was the true baby of our little family. He caught our eye at the shelter with his handsome looks, but stole our hearts with his sweet nature, curiosity, and intelligence.
He was the youngest of our family by far, needed the most attention, and also energized our household. He loved climbing on things, exploring, and standing up on his back legs. He was very smart and quickly learned how to “train” us to give him more pellets. He would hear the pellet scoop no matter where he was or what was happening, and would “teleport” into the kitchen, and climb in the cabinet, on top of the pellet container before I even had a chance to open the lid. At meal times I could barely walk because he would weave in and out of my legs so quickly with excitement.
In her past bond, Bertha didn’t groom very much, but she groomed Moose a lot. I think she also saw him as the baby of the family. She was definitely the boss, but like all of us, she couldn’t help but love him and want to lavish him with attention. His favorite time to ask for grooms was when she was eating her cecals, and she would usually oblidge once she was done chewing

He was finally starting to open up a bit more and really enjoy pets over the last few months (probably linked to not having to get penicillin shots every other day), and had taken up nipping me on the bum when I wasn’t paying attention to him.
I still expect him to come clambering into the pellet cabinet when I feed Bertha….
We all miss you Moose.
