        Hi all,

It’s been a while since I’ve been on here. Teddy is coming up to a year old and is such a pleasure of a bunny. He’s brushed daily and I’ve finally gotten some clippers (Andis Pro Clippers) and he’s great with letting me do the back of his body but is totally uncooperative when it comes to underneath. And since he got back from his bunny boarder (following holidays) he’s got a number of massive mats underneath him that I’m slightly at a loss as to how to get rid of. Does anyone happen to know of any excellent bunny groomers in Sydney anywhere?

I’ve watched many videos – but Teddy isn’t up to being as cooperative as the bunnies on the videos

        Cheers!

I’m sorry that I won’t be of much help to you – I don’t have an Angora nor am I familiar with any groomers in your area but I wanted to bump this thread in case any others can jump in with advice. Teddy sounds like a sweetheart and I don’t blame him for not wanting belly trims. :]

I’m sure it’s tricky if he doesn’t tolerate being held on his back or otherwise handled to get underneath. Have you tried holding him against your side on a table and lifting up his front feet (using your elbow to keep him against you)? I don’t know if that would give you a proper angle but he might be okay with that since its not being tipped backwards. Quite a pickle of a situation.

          Good luck!

Also not experienced with clipping rabbit fur formally (just snippits for topical treatments), but is the ease of use swift enough that you can bait him to stand up with a treat and hold him there while you trim?

Again, not experienced, so hopefully someone will jump in!

Sometimes I have to trim Bombur because he’ll pee next to the litter box and lay in it for hours while I’m at work, so he gets really matted on his tummy and bum. For his belly, I usually have my husband rub his head while I hold him down with one hand, and trim away with then other hand. It gets the job done, but can take a while if he’s uncooperative.
Maybe you can have someone help you out by holding him down and gently petting him while you trim. You could do it over the course of a few hours or something,

Thanks everyone. I’ve managed to get quite a bit of him done but the trickiest part is around his bottom area and in between his front legs/chest. I can hold his front paws whilst he ‘stands’ on his back legs for a very short time and get part of his belly done with the clippers – but the big mats under this chest area really require him being held on his back so I can clearly see the mat and the skin. Naturally, he’s not cooperating on that front. But I’ve been recommended a vet in North Richmond (over an hour from my place) who does grooming without needing to anaesthetise (generally) – so I’m hoping that she’ll be able to sort him out and also show me how to properly hold him.

Whilst he’s not a giant breed – he’s a big bunny at 3.5 kilos and he’s pretty feisty. I’m having to give him oral medication at present for a small eye infection and he fights like a banshee to avoid taking it. It’s a horrible bitter medication – the poor little poppet. Twice a day. Ick. And then five eye drops a day too (which fortunately he’s not bothered by in the least). Here’s hoping it clears up quickly since the first round of drops on their own didn’t work
