On Friday my beautiful little 12 week old mini lop x lion head Fudge passed away at home. We kept her in a pair with my other bunny Toffee. Fudge was always the quieter bunny, but she was lovely and seemed healthy until Friday morning. I noticed she was lying in the same position for hours. I tried not to panic being a new bunny owner and thought she was maybe having an off day. I tried to move her around and cuddle her but when she hardly moved, I phoned the vets. My Normal vets couldn’t help me in a emergency so I phoned another one. While I was on the phone to the vet she had what seemed to be a kind of seizure, then she gave a few awful cries, and eventually passed away. We rushed her down to the vets hoping she could be saved but unfortunately there was nothing they could do. I now have one bunny on her own 13 weeks old today and I’m looking at getting another. In a week time I pick up Fudges ashes and they come back to me in a little coffin. Although I only had her a few weeks I’m absolutely heartbroken and she has left a little bunny shaped gap in my heart. Rest in peace my beautiful, have fun at the rainbow Bridge ? ♥ ?

So sorry it had to happen, buns are such fragile creatures and are so good at hiding their sickness
I hope you can soon find a little baby that will fill that bunny shaped gap <3

Thank you, Im worried for my remaining bunny. They were only together just over a week but I don’t know what to do for her for the best. Do I get another friend for her or leave her alone? She may get depressed on her own but getting another friend for her I feel I’m replacing Fudge ?

If you can you could ask the vet to perform a necropsy on little Fudge, to make sure why she fell ill so suddenly. Or if it’s too late for that, you could bring in Toffee for an extra general health check and take the occasion to discuss about her diet, enviroinment and behaviour to rule out any chance of risk.

I have a solo bun and as long as he gets attention, he’s fine If you don’t feel inclined to take another bun right away, there’s nothing wrong in giving all your care to little Toffee and then when she’s older think about getting a friend. The bonding process has to be repeated anew after the buns get spayed/neutered, so there’s no haste bonding her so early on.

In conclusion, take your time to mourn your girl and then some more to think what’s best for Toffee Also, know that we’ll all be here to help you decide or just to listen to you if you want to talk/vent!

Ohh, sooo sad. Sorry to hear. My heart goes out to you. I agree with taking time to mourn. And this website is a great place for talking, grieving, and venting as Muchelle said.

                12 weeks….so young….bless her little soul.

I’m so sorry that you and Toffee’s time with her was cut so short in life.

Thank you everyone. Toffee is doing well no signs of upset eating drinking well. She doesn’t play with toys yet but I’ve got the inside of wrapping paper cardboard and put food and stuffed hay and will try her with that while I’m at work tomorrow. When I get home from work I give her plenty of cuddles and she is out her gave all evening running and binking ?
