I adopted two rabbits.  The first from one shelter and they told me he was a lionhead and he is a dwarf.  I like that fur is like in the pictures long hair but not too puffy.  I decided to get him a friend a month later from a different shelter and I found a female with avery sad story and she was just a little larger than him and a little fluffy, they didn’t know what she was and she was thin.  The previous owners left her in the back yard matted and unfed. The humane socitey seized her she was not given away.  Any way I have had her about two months and she is twice the size of my little guy.  The more I look at her, they must have shaved her.  She is a puffy ball of fur.  I mean you can’t see her eyes. I tried a barrett she was so cute but took it off.  I thought Jersey wooly but now I just think she is a giant lionhead.  It doesnt matter I mean she is mine but do you know if lion heads can get that big like 4.5 pounds

Hi Bun! Welcome to the forum. I wanted to start by saying you’ve made a great choice to adopt (rather than purchase)! You’ve made a great step toward improving the quality of life for these two

I thought that lionheads are typically a smaller size breed,, so to me it sounds like she’s got something else going on besides lionhead. Is there a way that you can post a picture of her? Maybe we can help you identify a breed with more certainty!

Lastly, I just have one question for you! Are these two bonded already?

I will try to post a picture. But I can’t get it to down load. I thought they were bonding but it turns out she was bullying him. I was told to let her bond to me first. They are in separate parts of one enclosure. They can see each other but no nipping.

She just flopped in her enclosure. I think she is happy. She doesn’t trust me too much but I will keep trying. She is an adult so she does come up to me. He doesn’t trust anyone.he just eats his food and stays in the hide. That’s why I couldn’t tell if she was bullying.

Oh, yes the bonding process is important so that no one gets bullied! When done properly, they will be able to live as equals in harmony! There is a whole bonding section here, so I would suggest reading up on some of that stuff to prepare yourself

Lip heads are only supposed to get up to 3.5 pounds! That sounds tiny but sometimes looks bigger than you’d expect. It’d be greatness if you could post a pic!

Lionheads have the dwarfism gene. So your bunny could be a false dwarf lionhead, which would likely exceed the 3.5 lb breed standard. Or, you bunny could be a lionhead mix. Just by going off of you description, I would say your bunny probably isn’t a Jersey wooly. The breed was developed by crossing a Nethie with a French angora. They have wool, but they have a “clean” face. One of my buns is a Jersey wooly and he doesn’t have wool on his head and face. Perhaps your bunny is a double maned (false dwarf) lionhead? That would explain all the extra fluff.

Lol my LB is 5.5 pounds (2.5kg)! I guess he’s got something going on, but he looks like just a lionhead to me!

I have a true dwarf lionhead boy who is only 4 months old but likely won’t weigh more 1 kg fully grown (2 pounds ish?) At the moment he weighs about 800g.

Then I have a mini lop lionhead cross, who weighs 2kg. I’m pretty sure regular lionheads would get to about that size.
