So poop wars between the two terrors hasn’t ceased. I’m not so sure it’s a territorial thing at the moment now tho because they are just pooping everywhere, in piles and scattered. They sometimes do a poop pile right next to the litter trays, they drop poops whilst grooming themselves, when eating hay that I’ve stuffed into toys, when playing find the dandelion etc. They used to stop mid way through our dandelion game to poop in the trays, a big pile and then come out and continue but now they just poop whilst running! It’s like they’ve regressed back to pre-spay/neuter. So far they haven’t pooped or peed *touch wood* onor near the mat that I put their hay pile on so that’s something. Peanut pees as the side of the litter trays. Buttercup has once. Soaking it up and cleaning immediately hasn’t helped, I’m constantly picking up poop and putting them in the litter trays but with no luck.

Is limiting their space temporarily the only option?

I know you said they’ve been having some issues lately, I wonder if this could be related to that. Like they’re trying to redefine their relationship all over again. Obviously my boys are still not bonded, but that’s the only thing I could think of. Because my boys are constantly leaving territorial poops everywhere.
Side bar: I like to keep their hay bag open for them to munch on it while their roaming, and Bombur has started peeing in it. I’ve lost two $40 bags of hay in a month because he pees in it. One bun ruins it for the rest.

I do think their little slump is what triggered the loss of litter habits but I think now they’re just in the habit of having no habits! Haha. They seem happy with one another now, things are less tense (that could just be me lol) We did apple juice on their heads daily for a week and that stopped on Sunday and my partner assures me that they are still grooming each other so things are going well (I’ve been away for a few days – which gives me a break from poop picking!)

It’s strange, sometimes Peanut will look in the litter box but then decide not to go in it and pee next to it. I’m planning to get a larger set up, an underbed storage box to replace their two cat litter trays so hopefully that will help. Ahhhh!

Oh lordy that’s a lot of hay to waste. One bun does ruin it for the pair

hahaha “in the habit of having no habits! Poop picking!!” Sarah you crack me up!

I don’t have much to add. I think it could also be their “redefining” relationship. What kind of litter do you use? Is it paper or pellet ? I used to use carefresh paper bedding and I noticed that I really had to change it like every day because it got so soppy with pee. Ophelia has always been a gem with her litter habits, but if the box is not in pristine conditions to her standards she will let me know by leaving two or three poops outside the box. I’ll change it and we are all good for 2 days, but by day 3 there will be a few strays if I don’t change it promptly by the end of day 2/beginning of day 3! She does choose to just pee in one corner too, so her litter box actually stays pretty clean besides that one corner. It’s like she wants to confine her mess to only one side of the box and the rest is totally clean! Silly bunny

Edit: she has two XL cat litter pans, so it’s not like either of them ever get too filthy in the 2-3 day span.

She sounds like a dream! I use wood pellets and I have two litter trays that I change every day. And still I deal with this! Messy little monsters. I really don’t want to limit their space but I fear I might have too

Oh my! Daily toilet cleaning! Well, you do have TWO poop machines and I only have one I think a short term space restriction will help get their manners back in order

I hope so. I hate confining them but my lord, my partner sent me a video of the mess he came home to yesterday  POOP SCATTERED EVERY WHERE! (*touch wood* still not near their hay pile tho woo) I found it hilarious but I wasn’t the one having to clean it up
