My first post is a sad one.. Boxing Day (Dec 26) aka yesterday, I lost my bunny Lola unexpectedly. She had been peeing blood so I took her to one vet who insisted it was an infection, and gave me antibiotics and pain killers to give her. A few days later she started to pee out little blood clumps, so I took her into the vet with suspicion of kidney stones or blood clots. They did an x Ray of her bladder and it showed no signs of stones. At this point she was still eating drinking and acting like my baby buns usually does. Christmas Day, I got up, changed her litter, fed her, changed her water, gave her her meds and let her out before I left to spend time with family. She was slower than normal, more lazy, and just wanted to lay down. Christmas night I came back, let her out and had the same results, a tired bunny. Boxing Day, around 12, I woke up to find her cage floor covered with spots of blood everywhere. I lifted her out to give her antibiotics, and it was clear she lost weight. My vet was closed so I drove her out to an emergency vet right away. They weighed her in at 2.34 kg, originally she weighed 2.48. This vet determined she was freezing after checking her very low temperature, and figured out that she was bleeding out of her uterus, not from her urinary tract like the other vet thought. They decided to do an emergency spay surgery (as she was not spayed). They told me they would put her in an incubator to warm her up, then proceed with surgery. About an hour after I left the clinic I got the call.. they had her in the incubator, then took a blood sample, then Lola stopped breathing. She didn’t reply to CPR and within a short hour my baby girl was gone. I never Got to properly say goodbye as the vet was hopeful she would make it through surgery, that’s my biggest regret. I only owned her for a little over a year, and now she’s gone. She was with me through family fights, and a huge breakup, and 4 moves. Now she’s gone just before next year. Every time I look at her cage I cry because I will never have my baby back. I don’t know what to do but cry, I just want her to come home. I don’t know how to deal with this loss, she was my best friend and meant the world to me

I’m so sorry about your bun. You did everything you could to get her the help she needed. I can’t imagine how much harder this must be with it being around the holidays. Just remember that she knows you will always love her.

I’m so very sorry you lost Lola. You really tried to get her help, no one could’ve done more. We have to rely on vets to diagnose and treat our pets.

It’s obvious you loved her dearly, and she knew that because animals know when they’re loved.
