Hello! I got my first bunny two weeks ago. It was not a spontaneous purchase – I researched bunnies and thought it through. Still, Im having some issues. My bunny Floyd, doesn’t seem that happy. Don’t get me wrong, he eats and all but he’s always hiding. He is around 5-7 months old and is a crossbreed between a dwarf and a rex. He doesn’t like sitting on fleece, he pushes it away and sits on the bare cage floor. He goes out of the cage (he’s an indoor bunny) but very rarely. Most of the day he spends hiding. Now, its only been around 2 weeks since I got him so I know he needs time to adapt but I wonder if I could do something to help him out. He doesn’t want to be petted but I can handfeed him just fine. He used to be an outside bunny so I wonder if thats the cause of why he’s always hiding. Maybe the change of temperature? What do you guys think? Should I maybe invest in more toys?

Is he able to come out of the cage on his own? If so, I would just open the cage door and leave him be. It might take awhile, but he will eventually come out to explore his surroundings. Two weeks isn’t very long. Some bunnies take more time than others to adjust.

As for the fleece, what he’s doing is perfectly normal.

Yes! He’s able to go out of the cage by himself and sometimes he does. Just not very often (mostly at night). His cage is always open and the room bunny-proofed. Oh well, I guess I’ll just give him his time to adjust. Thanks for the advice

It sounds like you are doing ok to me!

2 weeks isn’t long at all. Keep up the hand feeding, but don’t try to pet just yet. Play hard to get, ignore him so he learns to trust you. Laying on the floor and reading etc works wonders, as it allows the bunny to learn what you look like, and learn that you aren’t a predator
