I want to buy digestive supplements but also multi-vitamins for my rabbit, is it OK if I feed my rabbit a digestive tablet in the morning and a vitamin tablet at night? Would it harm him in any way?

If there are currently no reasons why this would be necessary, I would not purchase anything outside hay and pellets

Is there any reason why you are interested? If you haven’t already, please read the diet information found in the bunny info section of this site.

If you’re providing a balanced diet, you shouldn’t need to give a multi vitamin.

I wonder if you’re referring to the Oxbow “Natural Science” supplements? I’ve seen those in various stores, but I’d agree with the others; as long as your rabbit is getting a balanced diet, he probably doesn’t need those. If they ever become necessary, your vet will probably advise you so after a checkup if he finds your bunny needs more vitamins or whatever.

As the others said, if bun is on a balanced diet of hay and good quality pellets they shouldn’t need any vitamins or supplements. I do give my rabbit herbal blends just because they are yummy and some herbs do have health/medicinal benefits. But mostly because she loves them and they’re yummy

Agree with BunNoob – if you want to give supplements, then herbal blends are a good natural way of providing that.

At the moment I’m giving mine a calming chamomile mix, as they’re behaving a bit oddly about having a third bunny in the house.

But you can also look into herbs and find ones that support digestive health, uninary health etc.

If you google it, you can find lists of what herbs and leaves do what. Check that they’re bunny safe of course, but it’s an interesting way to enrich what they eat.

Ooh yes, herbal blends are great. Any kind of forage really as it’s so close to what they’d have ‘in the wild’ The supposed health benefits are a plus of course

I didn’t know there was a third in the mix! Are you going for a trio? I am so jealous

@BunNoob haha yes, foolishly, I am going to try for a trio. There’s a photo of my lovely newby floating around the Lounge somewhere.

Luna is being difficult as expected, (just smelling him in the house, they won’t be introduced until he’s neutered) but I hope she’ll come round with time.

Him and Atlas accidentally met through the bars, and were both perfectly charming to each other, so I’m hoping that the boys will get on, and I just need Luna to come round to the idea

Edit: Here, although he’s significantly chunkier than this now a whole 200 grams heavier at the last count

That reminds me actually, I’ve been giving my rabbits dried chicory root every day. I originally started it to use as a treat but then I discovered it’s one of the ingredients in the Oxbow digestive support tabs, apparently it’s good for the gi tract.

I may have to try that, if I can find it in local supermarkets. How much do you give them per rabbit per day?

I get it from http://www.thehayexperts.co.uk. I usually give one large piece (which is roughly thumb nail size) per bun before bed. They absolutely love it.
