Pablo is a Holland lop dwarf, he’s basically at his full size. He’s around 10 weeks old and I was giving him unlimited alfalfa but I’ve switched recently the a mix of Timothy hay and orchard grass. I’ve noticed he’s eating it but very minimal amounts. Normally he’s almost eaten it all by the time I’ve gotten home from work but it was only about halfway gone when I got back today. Is this normal when changing diets? I know he will get used to it but as a first time bunny owner I wanna double check.

Bunnies especially juveniles have very sensitive tummy’s. Any diet change should be done slowly. So continue feeding the alfalfa as you were doing and mix in small amounts of the grass hay and gradually change the ratios. Alfalfa hay though has a high caloric content that is good for growing developing bunnies. Many people wait until they are 4-6 months to start transitioning them off unlimited alfalfa. hope this helps!

Hay generally isn’t something that needs slow introduction, however when switching from one to another it is best to do it gradually just to ensure that bun is eating plentiful of the new hay. I would mix 50:50 alfalfa and the timothy and orchard mix and keep persevering. If he still won’t touch the other hays, you might need to try different types and different brands as most bunny’s have preferences (and, those change! My two had no interest in orchard grass when I first offered it and now they can’t get enough) You could always try using the alfalfa as a topper too.

I don’t think at 10 weeks old he’ll be at his full size, he’ll continue to grow until 4 months at least.

I agree with Sarah, mix in the Alfafa 50/50, and make sure he isn’t just picking it out.

People differ on whether to give baby buns alfalfa. Personally, I never have, but ensure they have enough specific baby rabbits pellets to help their growth. I think it’s a good idea to mix it though, so when he does need to be transitioned off it, its not too difficult.

Is he getting specific Juniour rabbit pellets too?
