Hi! New bunny owner here. My rabbit has adjusted well to living with us. Except, a week or so ago he’d start ‘flopping’ very often. When he finishes eating, when he’s bored, when he wants to block the door, etc. He starts off in the dead bunny pose then leans his head on something. I’m just wondering if there’s such a thing as too much flopping?

I honestly don’t think there is such a thing as too much flopping. If a bun is insecure or sick it doesn’t really flop. Flopping makes the bun vulnerable. It’s been suggested that it has some evolutionary origin much like playing possum – a predator could mistake the bun for a dead carcass and perhaps leave it be. But in general, a bun that isn’t feeling comfortable sits upright or tries to hide somewhere out of sight.

So I think he’s just feeling well. Relaxed and comfy.

Ah, thanks so much! I was kinda worried because he started flopping more often than I was used to ?

That just means he’s more comfortable

Flopping means they feel safe and content. It’s a wonderful thing. It just looks ridiculous.

Fernando did a very vigorous flop this morning right in front of my eyes…he was lounging with Panda on the upper deck of their condo, got up, shook himself a bit, and then *thump!* he flopped right over with his legs in the air. I think Panda was a bit bemused by her son’s action, she’s not that much of a flopper – she prefers doing the “lambchop” pose when she’s really feeling comfy.

Every time Clover does her DBF, Dawn looks at her like, “OMG, Clover, get up you’re embarrassing our entire species….” And then a few minutes later will do her version of the DBF.

Pretty sure the entire universe runs on irony.

Do you happen to have a photo of Dawn’s DBF?
