  Hello everyone! My name is Bre and I am a brand new bunny mama to clover the 8 week old Netherland Dwarf girl. I just brought her home 2 days ago and she’s the first bunny I’ve ever had. I’ve always loved bunny’s and have been an animal lover for life but never had the right circumstances to devote time to bun. Now husband and I are settled and I was ready for the long term commitment. I’ve only had her 2 days so I’m obviously still learning her personality but as of right now she seems to be very curious and adventurous. She’s very playful busy and happy. We’re having a blast getting to know each other. I’m a worrier by nature and an over protective pet mom in general so I know I’m going to have lots of questions and concerns so I was looking for a good support group and seem to have found it here! I’m not able to include a picture right now because I’m on my mobile device. (Husbands on the computer) but pictures will follow! Thanks for reading!

  Generally speaking, do a lot of behavioral observation from the next year, haha. Every rabbit has a different baseline, and their baseline will change as they grow up, mature, become more comfortable, and more trusting. The best way to stay on top of your rabbit’s health is to 1) make sure you’re maintaining healthy rabbit care and diet, and 2) recognize when your rabbit is behaving in a way that’s out of the norm.

  Thanks!! I think I’ll feel better once I know what her “norm” is. I’m looking for signs of bunny happiness like binkying and flopping which she’s been doing so that makes me happy. She’s eating lots of hay. Timothy and alfalfa. She hasn’t been eating many pellets. I’m not sure if that’s normal because she’s just so tiny. And she’s drinking water peeing and pooping. Can’t ask for more than that

  You do want her to be eating some pellets because they’re going to provide those dense nutrients she needs as she grows during this important developmental phase. Are they alfalfa pellets? Typically young rabbits go bonkers for alfalfa pellets.

  They are alfalfa pellets but she would rather eat the alfalfa hay. I filled her bowl and left it because I read they should be allowed unlimited access but now I’m thinking I will measure out how much so I can see exactly how much she’s eating. What would you say is a sufficient amount of pellets for her? Is there anything else I can do to encourage good pellet eating? From everything I’ve read it seems people normally have the opposite problem with the bunnies wanting the pellets more than the hay

  1/4 to 1/2cup the portioning when she’s technically an adult (post 6mo), but if she’s eating that much currently, that should suffice. Wick was on limited pellets very early.
  
  You’ll just want to monitor that she’s gaining weight, which should be the case because she’s eating alfalfa!

  She definitely not eating anywhere near 1/4 of a cup. Maybe she would like a different brand better? I’m stumped. I’ve tried hand feeding them too and she’ll eat one or two pellets then she’s over it.

  Hi! She is adorable . If you do switch pellet brands, just remember to slowly integrate the new pellets with the old pellets (25% new/75% old for a couple weeks, then 50/50, 75/25). Buns are very sensitive to changes in their diet, especially juveniles.
