Today is Pippi’s 4th gotcha day. Site wont let me add image ![]()
It could be the & sign in the file names. That sometimes causes trouble. None of the tricks we usually try are working, so I suspect the file name.

Thanks, bam
a 10 week old Pippi, and Pippi with Rusty, 4 years ago today. Pippi had made his way to the top of the stairs within two hours of being with us
White rabbit, white rabbit, WHITE RABBIT! ![]()
Oh, baby Pippi! And Rusty! Maybe he felt a kinship with the stair carpet. Similar color, similar softness =)
Gratulations, Pippi! Now you’re all grown up and married and everything!
I love their colors! Gorgeous!
Apollo Buttercup Bindi Sterling Olaf Podge Chewie Henry’s tummy!
It already feels Christmassy here. Although not even a hint of snow.
Buttercup, Chewie, Sterling, Bindi!!!!!
Pippi is gorgeous, Gina, as is Rusty!
Apollo, Apollo, Apollo.
Two times stress this morning. Last night Jasiri had a little bit of blood in her poop so i was considering a vet visit today or observe till Monday and go then. But now I’ve woken up she has a likely unrelated issue where the left side of her face is swollen. So that’s freaking me out. Couple of hours to wait yet until the vets open.
Leopold’s tummy, Wooly’s blaze, Bindi, Apollo, Sterling, Peep, Buttercup, Olaf, Chewie!
Apollo, buttercup, and sterling! Poor Jasiri! Maybe she tried to catch/eat a bee or a horsefly?
Poor Pigeon! Don’t worry Azerane, kittens tend to bounce back well from things.
Thanks guys. We managed to get into the vet. I first discovered the swelling at 5am, by the time I was able to ring the vet at 8am the localised swelling on her left cheek had reduced most of the way, and by her appointment at 10am, there was just a little bit of generalised swelling on her face. The vet said she’d probably either licked something that caused a reaction or tried eating a bug or similar which had stung her and caused the swelling. Since it had reduced so much by the time of the visit and was acting normal otherwise, the vet wasn’t very concerned and just said to keep an eye out. She also just said to watch the blood in the poop. She said since it’s red it’s in the late stage of the digestive tract and often with stress, moving homes and changing diet it’s not uncommon to see a little bit of blood and would likely fix itself. We were already booked in for her third kitten vac on Friday so we’ll see how it’s gone by then.
Silly creature, causing so much worry for me. But at least she’s going to be alright. I felt so awful when I saw her face all swollen up this morning.
Ahh Jazz – causing your Mum so much worry already !!!
Not sure about the swelling, but Cali also had blood in her poop the first week she was here.
It’s really scary of course, blood coming from inside. She hasn’t had it or any problems since (with exception to the almost daily throwing up of furballs!!!!
).
Glad to hear that it’s nothing to worry about! But that’s just our nature: if something is wrong with our furbabies we won’t be at peace until it’s fixed. I guess it’s a crazy pet lady thing
Bas was reminiscing yesterday about my first weeks with Breintje, that I was upset everytime Breintje did something new and unexpected. He had to calm me down once: “No dear, that’s not a seizure. This is what we call a binky…” ![]()
Whew, after a very long night we’re finally done with the gifts, the Sinterklaas surprise and all the poems. Bas was here yesterday, completely stressed out because he hadn’t managed to craft a surprise for his two nieces. A whole floor filled with artfully crafted surprises is half of the fun, so not having one is a big let-down. His gifts for his nieces are a card game called Sushi Go! and a cupcake tin. So I took up my crochet needles and made sushi in amigurumi style, while Bas wrapped the gifts and crafted a box to look like a serving board. We hid the presents in the sushi roll and the serving board. Just in time for the celebration today!
Also just in time for Sinterklaas: the placemats which my MIL put on her list. They are meant to be used on board of their boat, so they have anti-slip mats sewn in underneath. It was great to practise with bias tape, and I’m very glad that the mitered edges came out so nicely. Won’t tell you how many times I had to start over again…I’m surprised Breintjes ears aren’t drooping because of all the cusses.
The food thermos took a lot more time than expected, so that will be a Christmas gift. I need more time to finish it off nicely. It wasn’t on her wishlist anyway, so it’ll be a completely unexpected surprise.
Bas is off on a long train journey now with a gigantic duffel bag filled with gifts. The whole family comes to celebrate Sinterklaas, usually about 20 people. Everybody has made surprises and silly poems, and these poems are always a great way to poke fun at eachother in public and have a laugh together. It’s more important than Christmas to most people here, so I’m very bummed that I can’t join them because of my health issues. Bas said that there would still be gifts from his family for me, so he’ll drop by soon to give me a mini Sinterklaas evening. I’m still happy that I could join in a bit of the fun by crafting the surprise, some gifts and some funny poems. At least I’ll have a sweet weekend: Bas bought me a white chocolate initial and even went shopping to find gluten-free kruidnoten. Yum!
Grumble, grumble… Just as I was about to turn in for the night I saw Breintje making chewing motions all the time. I had no idea what he was doing and started to pet him. Suddenly I saw something hanging out of his mouth which looked a lot like sewing thread. I tried to take it away but he sprinted around the house, diving behind couches etc, all while still chewing. Eventually I managed to chase him into his cage, but by then the thread was gone. I have no idea how much he ate and what kind of thread it could have been. I’ve been sewing with extra strong thread last week, so I hope it wasn’t that stuff
He’s confined to quarters now with a large portion of hay and fennel. I hope that that’ll keep his systems flowing. Keeping a close eye on his litter box to see if he has any output. He seems to be eating just fine. I *hate* it when rabbits do dumb stuff like this: running away from someone who’s trying to help you. And what’s the deal with munching on stuff that can get you killed? (Oh, and why always in the middle of the night, preferably on the weekends?)
Ellie, I hope Breintje is fine today.
Today is 1st of Advent. Gluhwein and gingerbread and shopping.
That sounds amazing, hope you’ll have a splendid afternoon!
Breintje has pooped a bit, and has eaten his pellets. Not as frantically as he normally does, but that may be because of the midnight fennel snack. He hasn’t finished that completely as well. His activity level is normal.
And in Ireland, December is flu season so it’s hot whiskeys all around! Although I love gluhwein ?
So glad to hear Breintje eats and poops! The placemats are so beautifully made I could never use them. I’d have them framed.
I went to wood carving class yesterday and we carved little Santa’s helpers. Silly, but so much fun! And it was the first time I survived 2 hours of class without even needing the tiniest band-aid

Bravo! We require pictures of your work! Meanwhile I had to quit knife making for today because I burned my hand tinkering with a grumpy grinder. Ow frikkin ow.
Thanks bam ^_^ I’m happy they turned out so neat, and it’s great that people ask me for all these projects. I can practice all these different techniques without having to pay for the materials myself. Materials can get very expensive, and this way I can try out many new things without having to invest. Everything I learn here will come in handy if/when I’m going to start my own business.
Wood carving sounds really awesome, if you want to show your work sometime I’d be really interested
@Bladesmith: Ouch! I hope you’re not too badly hurt ![]()
Happy Birthday. Q8! If you are reading…
Im sort of concerned we haven’t seen you post for a bit. Maybe swamped with work or having tech difficulties logging on here?
Anyway, I hope you have been able to celebrate. Last BD in the sandpit, eh?!!
@Ellie, the sushi board is great! V impressed you could whip something up so fast. And your dedication to getting those mitred corners perfect. Yikes. I can safely say I would have avoided doing them at all. lol No way would I have the patience or skill.
I’m still giggling about last years Sinterklaas underpants! Haha! Not sure anything could top that!
Yes, Happy Birthday to Q8! I do hope everything is well!
*sigh* I am in love with a doggie on a local no-kill shelter’s website. She is so cute. But… I’m told I can’t have another dog until our living situation improves (house is torn apart right now). I doubt they would let us adopt anyway since we don’t have a fenced in yard. They seem extremely picky there.
LBJ, I’m happy to hear you’re thinking (at least a little bit) about getting a dog.
Q8, happy birthday! !!
I can’t show you my silly little whittling projects because I’m a beginner and can’t make anything that’s nice enough to show.

Nah. Just in an inconvenient place. Occupational hazard. I’m off shop for a while. Started some new meds for my ongoing neuropathy, and it’s made me goofy and wobbly. Stuff’s like truth serum. #Nofilters Woo.

Bam, I know this from experience, no artist is EVER satisfied with their work. The flaws you see, others won’t. Be confident.
Happy birthday Q8!
@jersey: haha, thanks
Amigurumi is really fun if you make it with thick thread, because you’ll get a nice big shape really quickly. Looks impressive, very satisfying, costs hardly any time at all. I’d really recommend it to people who’d like to start out with a new hobby.
I love practicing new techniques such as working with bias tape, I see it as studying and an investment in my future career. While I’m ill I’m focussing on my dream of getting my own LARP/cosplay atelier one day. And everything I can learn now is a new technique which I can use to make unique items for people in the future. At least it’s something satisfying to do, and if I can turn a tiny profit someday I’d be happy. I have no illusions that it could pay the bills, but every cent I earn for myself is one I don’t have to get from society.
@LBJ: Ooh, you’re making me curious! It’s good to hear that they’re very concerned about who adopts, but I hope they’ll approve of your future situation. Maybe they’ll be willing to reserve her for you? Or maybe you can adopt her while she continues living in the shelter for a couple of months?
@bam: Sorry, I didn’t mean to make you feel awkward about your skills. Hope I didn’t
Arts and crafts always make me really excited and talkative (did you notice?
), and I love talking to others about it. In this world of machinery and throw-away items it’s wonderful to see that some people still make their own stuff.
@Bladesmith: Neuropathy is such a b****, I really hope your new meds will give you relief. The wobblyness is a common side effect for meds which affect the neural system, hopefully this’ll subside in the first week.
And you’re totally right: every artist is their own worst critic
You always think that you could have done better here, or could have used another technique there, and oh…I really need to work on my …. technique. Luckily this also inspires you to progress: if you look back on the things you made years ago, you’ll see that you’ve continued to improve.
Ive relayed your kind wishes to Q8 who thanks you all.
She has MEGA probs logging on (and has pretty much given up trying) and so hopes the new upgrade will work.

To anyone who asked about Otis’s foot in last month’s thread, thanks! It kept bleeding on and off for a couple of days, but it’s all better now. And he has a nice scar to impress the ladies with. ![]()
bam: We have too see your artwork, pleeease!
Just saw this on my Instagram, maybe you’ve seen it already. But I just have to share:

(So sorry I can’t hyperlink https, you have to copy and paste it into your browser yourself).
A hero! Saving a bun from wildfire.
I hope everyone is doing well
I got 3 of my fingers slammed very hard in a door, and my middle finger is fractured. I am supposed to keep it wrapped with a popsicle stick splint for 4 weeks, but it is super annoying, so I don’t see that happening lol (it is also on my dominant hand)
Bam – I’m thinking about it. My husband, not so much. =\ She’s super cute though.
Ellie – I think it’s going to be longer than a few months, unfortunately. So I highly doubt it. I really should look at their website. LOL They took in a bunch of dogs from Texas though so they could free up room in the shelters.
Hi Moxie! Oh no, I’m sorry you hurt your finger. ![]()
Hi Moxie!! I hope you are doing well also.
Sorry to hear about the injury. What an absolute pain! Not to mention embarrassing. You’d get some strange looks walking around with your middle finger up all the time.
@Vienna, thanks for doing that. : )
@LBJ, could you convince hubby into at least going to the shelter to visit the dogs?
Jersey – Maybe. You have to make an appointment and they are about an hour away.
Mmm…
Well, I also think it is great you are looking/considering another dog anyway. : )
Well, don’t get your hopes up. LOL While I miss my girl very much, I don’t know if having a new one is in the cards right now. I sure miss having a dog sleeping with us and sitting with us though. Just having something to cuddle. *sigh*
And no, the buns don’t do those things. Especially the cuddling part.
Hi Moxie! I was just thinking about you, I saw a skunk on Instagram and thought about the skunk your dad saved. I’m sorry about your fingers!!
Sorry to hear about your fingers Moxie, it sounds really painful. At least you have a perfectly good excuse to flip off the whole world for a time.
First snowfall of the winter is expected to hit the metro Washington, DC area tomorrow. It’s part of a storm that’s been causing snow in San Antonio, Texas, of all the places.
The heaviest accumulation, most likely (50%) being 1-3 inches, is supposed to come down east of the Interstate 95 corridor, well to the east of where I live in Manassas, Virginia. That being said, it’s likely going to be a very slippery, sliding day tomorrow on the local roads until the road crews can get to work; they’d better already be getting ready to put salt down. Panda and Fernando are well-found for food, particularly hay (I picked up a whole compressed bale of timothy from Friends of Rabbits last weekend) and have plenty of pellets for the weekend though I’m planning to buy a new bag – I was going to do it tomorrow but might have to wait until Sunday depending on weather. Greens should be OK for tomorrow as well. I’m actually more concerned about my own larder if I can’t get out tomorrow!
Oooo, Sorry about your finger, Moxie. OTOH (See what I did there?
), now you have an excuse to tell the world what you think with impunity! Let the free bird fly free!
Clover’s tummy!! (Sorry, I forgot.)
Bam- We were just telling that story to somebody the other day! It was truly awesome we got to save the little guy ![]()
So…..here’s how silly my life has become. And i swear, every word of this is true.
Early this past week, I got the crap scared out of me by this horrendous clawing and scratching noise at my front door at 7:15 in the morning. As I was making my coffee. I rush to the window at the door expecting the hordes of hell and maybe a few undead, and look out to see……nothing. WTF? The next morning, same time, same horrific noise. THIS time when I looked out the window I see, sitting on my doorstep, looking right at me, sat a squirrel. Just one. Wiggling her little paws, and looking at me like she was making a request. I even called my daughter over to see this and prove I hadn’t lost my mind. She saw it too.
So, I open the door, squirrel of course runs away, but only about 10 feet or so. I put a tablespoon of my parrots seed mix on the step where she was sitting. Go back inside, but looking out the window. Sure enough, she comes back and starts eating. It’s then I realize that it’s the same squirrel that’s been hanging around my forge and shop, that gets very close to me as I sit and wait for metal to heat up, and I sit and talk to her. She’s gotten within arms reach numerous times.
So now I’ve figured it out, she’s scratching at my door ASKING to be fed. And sap that I am, I’m now feeding her. Every morning, I set out a bowl with a small amount of seeds, and she daintily sits next to the bowl and eats, to the delight of my daughter and the distraction of our cats.
My life am weird.
Hope all is well with everyone. Been going through a bit of a funk lately, and I’ve pretty much removed myself from all social media and human interaction… I feel so guilty about not being able to bond Quincy and Ophelia. I miss him dearly, and I’m finding it hard to live with the decision of rehoming him. I also know that Ophelia really seemed to want to be his friend ( for the first few weeks until she got sick of him and his attitude ) and I still think she would really enjoy a friend. But I don’t think I am ready to try all of that again, so I’m just spending time with Ophelia and spoiling her. It’s been a really stressful year for me between working, school, getting married, failing bonding and rehoming Quincy, and a cancer scare with my mom. But I managed to make it through the year still in one piece. And with a 4.0 GPA, so I did just about as good as I could. I find solace in the fact that I’ve put three of the four accounting classes behind me this year… I am NOT a fan of math at all… Anyway, just checking in! Happy Holidays to all.
@joe: That sounds like a lot of snow, I hope you’ll be able to stock up. Be safe on the road!
Here in NL it’s also going to snow this weekend. The snowfall along the coastline will be relatively thin because of the gentle sea climate. But we in the east are practically in Germany, so we’re expecting heavy snowfalls. Bas helped me stock up on goods last monday, so now I’m as happy as a fat hamster all cozied up for winter. An overflowing pantry and a freezer stocked to bursting, we’ll be good here. It’s starting to snow lightly, friends are on their way here to join us for dinner, and I’m making kale stamppot with smoked sausage and gravy ^_^
@Bladesmith: LOL, she has you well-trained
Amazingly cute, could you try and make a picture of her? Bas also loves squirrels.
Wait… 1-3 inches is a lot of snow? o_O

Wait… 1-3 inches is a lot of snow? o_O
How much snow does the Netherlands get in the winter? Back two years ago, the D.C. area was smacked by what we call “Snowzilla”, the biggest snowstorm in at least a couple of decades. It took at least two days for me to be able to dig my car out from the snowdrifts, and I wasn’t able to get back on the road again until the next day. We had at least 2 to 3 *feet* of snow everywhere.
1-3 inches is going to be a dusting by comparison, and if the road crews are on the ball, hopefully the main roads at least will be kept clear so I can get out and do my errands tomorrow. Good thing I can do pretty much all my Christmas shopping online; what I really need is people food (like I said, Panda and Fernando are pretty well fixed for hay and have enough pellets and greens to make it through the weekend if necessary).
Not a lot of snow nowadays. When I was a kid we used to have winters with far more snow, but nowadays it’s rare to have real snow which forms a nice white carpet. It’s mostly slate and endless rain which freezes overnight.

It varies from year to year in this part of the United States. In 2015-16, for example, we had the warmest December on record, but then in the following month, as I remarked in my last post, we had the biggest snowstorm in many years. This past winter, 2016-2017, was fairly warm with only a few thin dustings of snow. 2014-15 had been fairly mild, but 2013-14 was bitterly cold. This fall has been warmer than normal to the extent that I was still cutting on my A/C a lot of the time in order to keep temps in my apartment nice and cool for the bunnies. The last couple of weeks, however, I’ve had the heat on a lot more.
Facebook just reminded us of a very snowy December 5 years ago. We had 2 or 3 really snowy winters then. But this year it’s been raining since March or so :/ A good year for mushroom-hunting though.
We just had quite a big snowfall, and I took the excuse to drive to the shops on my mobility scooter. Love it! Everything looks so crisp and fresh and I love it when it falls on my hair and my eyelashes. I arrived at the shop looking like a little snowman, and the clerks all started to laugh. “Is there a blizzard out there?”
When I returned half an hour later most of it had already turned to slush, and it’ll freeze up again tonight. I bet there will be many accidents tomorrow morning. In winter temperatures often fluctuate around the freezing point, so it gets messy very quickly. Every day there is some rain or wet slushy snow, and it freezes up at night.

I’ll be wrapping things up here and leaving for home in about 15 minutes. It’s pretty overcast here, but it’s still not expected to start snowing until tonight around 10 pm (though the snowfall total has been revised slightly upwards, anywhere from 2 to 4 inches). Looks like intermittent periods of snow from 10 pm tonight to 4 pm tomorrow.

That’s what I was going to say. For me, 1-3 inches is a “snow shower” (as the weather people call it). But, over the last few years, we have had far less snow. A drought, really. Last year, I think there was 2 inches total for the entire winter.
Oh BunNoob, you did your best. I’m sure both buns are happier now, although I know it must be hard to accept. Everything will be okay. And that’s an amazing GPA to finish on x
Looks like the snowstorm is a bust, at least in my part of town. It’s showing snow, but it’s also above freezing so it’s not sticking (though it could get dangerously icy tonight). So I’m out and about laying in bunny supplies for the week!
Congrats on your succes with your studies BunNoob, it’s quite impressive seeing how rough your year was. Happy holidays to you as well and a better 2018!

Glad to hear that it wasn’t so bad as predicted, and I hope you can stock up ![]()
Here it’s exactly as predicted: continuous snowfalls until tuesday. Predictions for tomorrow are 4-8 cm. During daytime it’s just above 0 and at night it freezes. The morning paper was full of accident reports. NL has water everywhere, roads are often surrounded by deep ditches and ponds for water management. There were a lot of cases of people who slid off the roads and ended up in icy water. I’m sorry for all the people who have to go out and travel.
I managed to snap some quick pics of the view from my living room window. It’s a sight we don’t get to see often anymore, so everyone who doesn’t have to travel is enjoying it as much as possible.
That looks beautiful, Ellie!
Moxie: Ouch! I broke my middle finger as a kid, it doesn’t feel good. I bet you didn’t cry as much as I did though. ![]()
Ellie, how pretty! I’ve read about an ice skating race held on the canals of Amsterdam when they freeze over, and that only happens every 10 years or even more seldom. Snow is amazing – unless you have to drive in it.
Bladesmith, don’t know how I missed your lovely squirrel-story. What a clever little one!
There is skating on the canals of Amsterdam sometimes, but not a race as far as I know. The canals aren’t that long, and most skaters clock in at 30 km/h.
The real race everyone’s hoping for is the “Eleven Cities Tour” (Elfstedentocht) in Frisia. That is a very prestigious race of 200 km going past 11 historical Frisian towns. Completing this gruelling race is considered a real feat of endurance and mental stamina. Our current king completed this race in 1986 at age 18 when he was still crown prince. He joined under a false name and skated the race because of a bet
The last one was held in 1997, and since then everyone has been hoping for another one. That doesn’t happen often, only 15 of them have been held in the past 108 years. Every time the thermometer drops people are keeping their fingers crossed until the ice-masters declare that the ice is thick enough. There’s real ice-fever here in NL, the race will be broadcast live on national TV and the hole country will be glued to the TV, even at work.
Other fun fact about wintery conditions in NL: the police are especially happy with thick snow. They’ll be driving through neighbourhoods to make note of any roofs which don’t have snow. This way they can easily locate “indoor gardeners”
Oh how funny Ellie, i hadn’t thought of that…. ![]()

Wow, seriously?
Seems like there would be more important things to spend those resources on… I thought they were more easygoing about this in the Netherlands, nowadays.
No, it’s very important because these illegal plantations are often large and a massive fire risk. We’re not talking about a couple of plants for your own use, but large scale criminal activities. Electricity and water are stolen from neighbours or public services, and those wonky electronics are a huge fire risk. We’re in a border town, and it’s a massive problem here. Mostly they rent houses in poor neighbourhoods and fill them with plants and equipment. A couple of years ago I came back from shopping with a friend, and one of my neighbours was in the process of getting arrested. His plantation had wonky watering equipment which completely flooded the 4 houses below him. These were mostly inhabited by people who were already poor, mostly single moms. Must have been another huge set-back for them
The legislation is kind of strange here: in small quantities it’s overlooked, but in general it’s still illegal. Many countries have already passed us by with better laws. It’s like this: personal use and growth in smal quantities is allowed, and small quantity sale is allowed if you have a coffee shop permit. But coffee shops can’t buy legally. Ehm, they just have to pull it out of their ear I guess…magically…? So this is where you get criminal activity, and a lot of it. Mostly at the risk of the people who weren’t well off to start with. I hope that policies will change so criminals don’t earn from this anymore.
Im watching this movie called The Christmas Bunny, it’s quite touching and thought I’d share. It’s on Netflix for those with a subscription
Ellie- a couple of years ago our police were using thermal detectors to catch people growing illegally here.
Unfortunately on one of their raids they raided a house only to discover it was because a conscientious owner had set up heat lamps for her guinea pigs!
Rofl !! Now THATS a waste of resources and not very good Intel !! Haha
Posted By Ellie from The Netherlands on 12/10/2017 10:45 AM
I hope that policies will change so criminals don’t earn from this anymore.
Me too. Most of the problems associated with it are directly connected to it’s illegality, it really doesn’t make sense to keep these policies up any longer.
I was wondering how there could be any demand for big operations like that, since you can buy it at the coffee shops there. Now that you say there’s nowhere for the shops to get it legally, it makes a lot more sense.
Dface: Dang, that’s crazy. Was there no investigation done before they decided to raid the house? Poor guinea pigs probably got freaked out.
Well i think the assumption was that anyone with additional heat sources on that scale was clearly up to something! I could be remembering wrong but i think she has a substantial number of guinea pigs with heat lamps, so it did look suspicious using only thermal imaging.
I guess they didnt want to alert anyone and give them the chance to clear out?
But yeah I imagine there was a lot of red faces after that!
wooo hoooo my cat killed a vole. i love my little pest killer. the whole up stairs is now poppy’s room. because she figured out how to open my bedroom door
Blue Moon, how great for Poppy ![]()

Must have been another huge set-back for them![]()
The legislation is kind of strange here: in small quantities it’s overlooked, but in general it’s still illegal.
See… I understand that in the cases you describe, it’s not a waste of resources. Those people who are breaking the law by massive scale operations and theft of other people’s power is wrong. But, at least here in the U.S, so much money is wasted on tracking down the wrong folks… It’s easier for them to target red eyed, giggly, cheeto-stained teenagers instead of focusing on the real criminals who are doing what you describe.
A vole? Where did your cat find a vole? Must have some meadows with thick snow cover nearby.
We already have a foot of snow, and another 12-36 inches coming tomorrow!
We have snow too!
Ellie, it must’ve been the 11 Cities race I meant. It was a long time ago that I read that article, perhaps it was in 1997 even. I always forget you have a king now, you always used to have a queen.
LBJ, I thought cats took voles all the time?
Here’s a whittling project that perhaps can be a Christmas ornament next year. It has to dry slooooowly in the fridge before I can finish it and paint it, because it’s green wood:
Hehe, a lot of people have to get used to it, especially tourists who want to join in the “Queensday” celebration. The celebration includes huge outdoor flea markets, music festivals, bake sales, nostalgic games etc. People dress in orange and meet in the streets. On this day everyone can sell stuff without a permit. A lot of second-hand goods change hands that day, and many kids have memories of playing market stall. It’s a great day to go bargain hunting for toys, kitschy gifts and even food poisoning
It used to be on April 30th, but “Kingsday” is now celebrated on his birthday on the 27th. Every year we still get small groups of tourists who arrive 3 days late, all dressed in orange and looking very dejected. Poor sods, their travel guide book was a bit out of date.
Nice work on the wood, really impressive! You need to have a very steady hand for it.
Good news for my neighbours: their bathroom is finally being renovated after years of legal battles with the landlord. Their mold problem got so bad that they had to throw away 2 wardrobes which were in the bedroom. They had completely rotten through.
Breintje and I have fled to Bas’ place, because the whole house is rattling under the sound of heavy drills. Breintje is having a blast here because the whole room is carpeted. He’s running, playing and even chasing around a football. Oh, and re-enacting something straight out of Jaws: I’m on the bed eating a mandarin, and he’s running in circles below the bed. He doesn’t understand where the smell is coming from and is circling me like a little carpet shark
my cat found the vole in my green house so i have no idea where it came from. I have to admit it was pretty cute (the vole) i know that is weird

I had to look up voles on Wikipedia to learn that they’re what I know better as field mice.

sorry my mom told me it was a vole it is actually a shrew
the picture above is not the one my cat killed

Probably!
BunNoob: Agreed. At least things are starting to change in your state.
bam: That’s awesome, you’ve got talent! Thanks for sharing. ![]()
Although considered pests if they get inside a home, shrews are actually a very good natural control for pests as they are insectivorous, and territorial. They are also the only terrestrial mammal to echolocate. Fascinating little creatures.
I’ve been applying to places since I finished in October…but most places want more experience or think I’m over qualified!
But I got a call to say I’ve an interview tomorrow.
Fingers crossed it goes well. I have terrible nerves and am hopelessly shy
…I really need a job so I can continue giving my bunnies the lavish existence they’ve gotten accustomed to!!
Oh I love shrews! One of the few venomous mammals. As Dface said, they are actually very beneficial. They eat insects and other invertebrates AND they even eat mice. They are extremely territorial and will fight each other to the death. Plus they are always just a few hours away from starvation because their metabolisms are so high.
We had a shrew on our basement steps once. Poor thing was lost and obviously terrified. I coaxed him into a box and let him go outside. Hopefully he found a place to go that wasn’t already occupied.
Dface – What kind of job are you looking for? It’s always a bit awkward for recent graduates. I had the same problem, I had to take a job I was “over qualified” for. Got turned down the first time around too! LOL But when the position opened again (person they chose over me didn’t work out) I managed to convince them I was a good fit for the job in a second interview.
Blue Moon – BTW, your shrew is a short-tailed shrew. They are larger than the least shrews. I’m surprised your cat killed it. They can be quite vicious when cornered. Unless your cat found it dead already? Dead shrews are quite common in the fall/winter. They simply run out of gas and drop dead. Their metabolisms are so high that they literally starve to death if they don’t have a constant supply of food.
Not to be over dramatic or anything, (lol), but since the Net Neutrality decision is tomorrow (the 14th), I just wanted you all to know how much I have appreciated all of you guys and the new things I have learned and the friendships I have made. ❤ Just in case Net Neutrality does get repealed and I don’t have a chance to thank you all before it goes into motion (because honestly, I don’t think I could continue to afford internet without net neutrality). I sincerely hope FCC does not repeal Net Neutrality, and I will be able to enjoy BB for many years to come. But just in case, it is better safe than sorry, and I want you all to know how much I love you guys before it is too late lol. (If we still have Net Neutrality on the 15th, I am baking a giant cake and having a celebration lol
) ![]()
“Not be to over dramatic or anything….” ROFL Mox.
I have no idea what any of that means but fear not, you won’t be disappearing off the face of the earth.
(( Hugs )))
Dear Moxie, I DEMAND cake on the 15th!
LBJ- I wanted to work in big data and statistical analysis( which is a branch off of my degree, but honestly they all want people who are crazy qualified( X amount of years in programmmes that haven’t existed for that long kinda thing!) The job I’m going for is very low down in an IT company doing data checking, hours are awful and so is pay, it’s only requirement was that you have a degree. But work in an IT company is a really good start! Plus at this rate I cant afford to be picky, I’m out of money completely and dont like not having money set aside for emergency vet fees!
LBJ- my cat defiantly killed it because my mom and dad heard it squeaking before they found it.
Vienna- Net Neutrality pretty much means all websites, browsers etc. Are treated the same. If that is repealed, the government and large companies are going to have full control over the speeds of our internet/able to screen what people go on, and will have the ability to charge extra for any and all websites, browsers, apps etc., anything you may want to use. It is really being pushed by a few money hungry people/companies who want to be able to make even more money. It is ridiculous, you don’t think it could even be a possibility, with how dependant people are on the internet now a days. But apparently a large percentage of letters/petitions are being ignored, and they are still trying to push this through.
Also disclaimer, that was written at 2am, but I DO love you guys ![]()
@Ellie Here she is, our “knock on the door and demand breakfast” squirrel. My daughter named her Serafina. No idea why. Serafina take no crap from the other squirrels. She runs them all off until she’s had her fill, and then graciously allows them to have the rest. And they’re all males, bigger than she. I have to admit I like her attitude and spunk.

Its been a couple weeks since November 29th, so I’m getting ready to start bonding the trio! I recently found out that Vinny, Leo, or both, are avid cord chewers. 2 phone charging cords and a lamp cord. Thankfully they didn’t get electrocuted. I’m going to have to bunny proof better. I’m so used to Reese, who could be let out and trusted to not eat anything except paper. There is also tons of snow where I live! It’s getting down to 6 degrees Fahrenheit (-14.5 degrees Celcius) tonight, so I’m making sure the bunnies get extra fleece blankets to burrow in!
Blue Moon – They have a haunting shrill. Much louder than you would expect such a small animal to make.
Dface – With stuff like that, sometimes you just have to get your foot in the door. While you’re there, try to find opportunities to gain experience with other things. Then keep your eyes open for better positions you can apply for with your newly acquired experience. Luckily, I didn’t have to look to far. My boss quit and I got her job.
Moxie – I’m hoping we will keep our net-neutrality. But, in the event we don’t, I don’t think things will change automatically on the 15th. ![]()
Bladesmith. Squirrels are soooo intelligent, clever and not afraid of hoomans. I rememebr the adverts on tv showing just how far squirrels would go to get a nut (assault courses and tarzan-like jumps (without the vines!!))
Really cool. I like squirrels.
Bladesmith, she’s beautiful!
I had no idea about shrews! I know we have them here, but I thought they were just like any other mouse/vole but with a longer snout.

I think it’s a lead-pipe cinch that the thing is going to be hit with a raft of lawsuits as soon as it’s issued, and at least one judge (probably several) can be found who will be happy to issue an injunction putting it on hold until it can be heard out in court. Wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up going to the Supreme Court, and with one thing and another it might not be resolved until the next administration comes into office. Never underestimate the power of lawyers to thoroughly gum up the works. ![]()
Joe – Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Although I am a bit disturbed about the number of fake comments that were submitted to the FCC proceedings. I submitted a legitimate comment, but apparently it meant nothing. They decided not to consider the comments because of all the fake ones.
Are you still out there Moxie?
Bam – Ah, but they are not like mice or voles at all. For one, they aren’t rodents.
But hey, what other mammal can you say has purple teeth and venom? ![]()
Was trying to make it onto the forum to do a bit of posting, Jasiri makes it very troublesome for me to use my laptop and I feel my time is almost up after catching up with e-mails, lol.
I’ve been reading from my phone, just not posting a great deal because of that. Things are going well though. The bunnies are good though their cage needs a really good sweep, they are so messy with their hay at the moment. Dory is doing well, no changes to report there except she is super awesome with Jasiri, doesn’t scream or try to attack her through the cage etc. Jasiri is wonderful, a complete sweetheart, crazy kitten troublemaker. She has her flaws, such as needing to be around me at all times (which is usually fine, but not when I’m trying to use the laptop or clean out the bunny cage), and also the fact that I have to supervise her litter tray visit, lol. She doesn’t go poop if I don’t follow her to the tray and stay to supervise, haha. She’s adorable though and snuggles with me at night which I love. I’ll try to get some pics up in the pic thread this week. We also got a new cat tree last weekend, it’s pretty amazing and Jasiri loves it.
@Bladesmith: sorry for my late reply, I’ve been at Bas’ place for a while. Really cute pics, and such a clever squirrel ^_^ Like her name too!
@Azerane: nice to hear that they’re all getting along so well
And I hope that the “potty proudness” won’t last past her kitten phase.
So glad Jazz is finding her feet in her new family. You know Az, one more in your house and we’ll have the same amount of furries (feathers included! and no! Mr Azerance doesnt count !! LOL!)
Is her litter tray in the bathroom? Cos my Dad’s cat’s was in the toilet and whenever he went, his cat went !!! So funny !! He never trained her, it just happened. ![]()
Reese, I had the exact same issue with Mellie. Tony had always been good about chewing and could only jump to certain heights. All my bunny proofing went out the window when Mellie came home because she can jump higher than Tony and reach things he couldn’t and she chews EVERYTHING.

MOOOOOOOOXIE!!!!!!
I’m trying to find info on the Net Neutrality vote, it seems like they did end it? Isn’t this genuinely bad for sites like BB?
Bam – Yes, they voted to repeal net neutrality. But it isn’t over yet, so don’t expect to see anything change for awhile. That’s why I’m calling to Moxie, I’m sure she’s out there somewhere. Hehe!
Yes she is doing well though is terribly naughty. She’s constantly trying to get into the bunny pen. I’m at the point where I’m letting her get in for short periods of time to make sure i can observe her interactions with the bunnies. As there have been a number of occasions now when I’ve stepped outside to change a litter tray etc and I’ve peeked in the window a minute later to see Jasiri hanging out in the pen with the bunnies. So far it’s been mostly calm interaction. Jasiri seems to have respect for their size especially as Luna has gone after her a couple of times when she got too close.
Regarding her litter habits, she has her main tray under a table in the hallway. It gets moved to the spare room when she’s shut in there. She also has a second tray in our bedroom which she’s only used once or twice thank goodness. I don’t think she likes it, it’s not a sieve tray like the other one and for whatever reason it just doesn’t suit her but it’s there for night time emergencies. In a previous post i mentioned blood in the poop. Vet said just to keep an eye as it can be normal with new home and changing diets. It improved a touch then got much worse so i rang the vet again and enquired about a fecal test but she told me just to keep watching a little longer. She was right. Her poop has finally settled in terms of regular shape/consistency which at the same time has resulted in the blood almost clearing up entirely. I’m only seeing a tiny trace amount at times which i expect will be gone completely by the end of the week.
Happy Belated Gotcha, Pippi! Will read this thread in a bit… breakfast soon.
Gah… delivery guy’s late.
So today is the first time I was able to get on BB in weeks and weeks, so I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed by the massive bi ge catch-up (before I inevitably lose access again). Just wanted to say hi *waves* ??
We’re well. I was supposed to be visiting Canada for three weeks but my passport and residency were fooked up by better paid people than I, so I missed that flight. But it’s ok since that means three weeks of quality wookie time (yes, can’t wait to see the new Star Wars).
Downloaded the last part of Uncharted for my PS4 so we’ll be gaming too. And reading.
Bladesmith: My parents had a “pet” wild squirrel for many years… she was delightful, if a wee bit skittish lol
Miss BB lots and wishing you all happy winter solstices and lots of full tummies and whiskery kisses etc etc etc ![]()

I’ve been here since I was 8 years old (I’m 22 now, so it’s been a bit)! At first I HATED Florida… it’s hot and disgustingly humid!! and the bugs!!! But we’ve got the springs, the beaches, and the state parks… I just love it all!! Even if it is FloriDUH. ![]()

Good to have you and Chewie back Q8! Sorry it didn’t work out with your Canada trip, hopefully you’ll get another chance to go before long. Speaking of your PS4, I’ve got great news!
They’re remaking Shadow of the Colossus for the PS4, previously it was only available for the PS2 and 3. One of the greatest games ever made (even though it doesn’t have a lot in common with Uncharted
).
In other news, Otis’s bits are getting obscenely large. I feel like if we ever ran into young children on a walk I would have to tell them to avert their eyes. ![]()
Bladesmith: What a cute squirrel, sounds like she’s got it made!
Q8, so great to see you =) =) =)
I’m sorry you won’t get a lovely Canadian Christmas with lots and lots of snow and jingle bells and boughs of holly etc etc, but I bet the Wookie is doing the happy dance =)
Hazel, LOL!!!
Hi Q8!!!! *waves* Well, at least you’re still alive. :p

Yes, still breathing, still got a pulse.
Got access this morning so it’ll be a good day
Bladesmith: I might just take you up on the offer once I’m back in Canadia (not a fan of extreme cold) lol
We have a tiny Christmas tree! It is now where out IKEA Christmas raindeer used to be. I’d post a pic but am feeling lazy – haven’t eaten yet… no strength… must…. find…. sustenance….. gaaaaaaahhhh…. ?
Thus it begins… The holiday snack attacks!
More like a snack siege, over here LOL ![]()
I just took the Chrissy pudding out of the pot. It’s 3:30am (I’m not the best planner..lol)
Before it was cooked, I was worried it would be too small. I forgot it expands. After cooking, it’s circumference grew to 80cm! Lol
The holiday snack attacks!
Errrr, yeah, mine started early Nov !!!
Jersey !!!! My OVEN isn’t even 80cm wide !!!! ROFL I hope you are having lots of people over to eat it !! ![]()
Vienna ![]()
Jersey, do you make the pudding from scratch?
I bought a lovely chihuahua winter coat for Bam yesterday, in a charity shop. He immediately made it clear he’s not having anything to do with it. Probably not his color. Or maybe he’s afraid he’ll look fat in it. Anyway, I’ll be re-donating it tomorrow ?
Hahaha, that’ll last you through the whole season Jersey
Christmas pudding, Epiphany pudding…
@bam: after a certain age it’s super uncool to wear clothes your mum bought :p
Ellie, LOL, that must be it. Like most mothers, I still think my baby boy is my baby boy =D
Lol Vienna, well the diameter is prob about 20-25cm? So it fit in a large stockpot.
I’m from a large family so there will be plenty of people about to have some. We usually divvie it up after and take portions home. So you can freeze it and eat in July if you desire. Christmas this year is at my sisters place. No way could I have the family at mine. My place is a disaster!
Ellie, Epiphany pudding is achievable so long as one can resist and not eat it before then! Im better off freezing it so it’s out of sight, out of mind.
Bam, yes from scratch. It doesn’t take too much skill really. You can be pretty flexible with quantities unlike other baking. More brandy? No problem.
Generous with the fruit? Do it! Last year we accidently doubled the bread crumbs and it was fine.
My nieces and nephew helped me out with it last year with my Mum overseeing us as she is the expert.
Sometime years, she’d do the main cake and pudding AND individual cakes and puddings for everyone to take home. No way I was volunteering to do THAT!
Really, we could have gone without as there is always plenty of food but it’s tradition and we need the normalacy.
You can make the cake months in advance as it improves after baking. But I only did it recently.
It sounds like you need a Bam look-a-like soft toy so you can dress it up. lol I wonder if Bam would have been more co-operative for your mother? Fluffy traitor!
Ohhhh CIRCUMFERENCE !!!!!
![]()
Bam says Mummy you know how much I hate my Santa’s outfit, so why’d you go spend good money on a silly coat for? I could’ve gotten 3 heads of romaine for the same sum.
I dressed up the stuffy Ikea-bunny, just so you can imagine Bam in it:
(Do not put bunnies on their backs unless they’re stuffy bunnies.)
Bam exited from my lap when I draped the coat lightly over him. He does that when he’s not amused. But he always stops when he’s just out of reach and waits for his treat, before he footflicks and hops away ![]()
Maybe he thought the furry collar was another bunny approaching in his field of vision? :p
It’s a shame, how would have looked adorable in the coat.
My buns would react same way as him, I’m afraid.
@Q8, sorry your trip home fell thru. : (
Your family must have been disappointed.
Imagine if the mess up happened when you were leaving for good and all your worldly goods were in transit.
You’d be out for blood!
Not out for it. Bathing in it, horror movie style ![]()
Mmmm, Christmas food. We already had a big lunch put on for us at work on Friday. I’m sure we’ll be eating plenty at my mum’s tomorrow for Christmas Day lunch. Can’t wait for the Christmas dip she makes every year. Not to mention the pavlova
Bunnies don’t know it’s Christmas yet because I haven’t decorated their cage! I need to put in both of their Christmasy fleece blankets. They are being so messy at the moment too, hay is literally everywhere. It’s like they’re not even trying to keep it in the hay rack. I feel bad though, I have Christmas presents for Jasiri and Dory, but I didn’t find anything for the bunnies. I do at least have toys from previous orders from bunny shops that I haven’t given them yet, so that will have to do ![]()
We’ve been very slack and only just put up our Christmas tree yesterday. Jasiri loves it of course, she climbs around in it and knocks off all of the (thankfully cheap plastic) baubles. She’s very cute though. She’s grown so much in the 4 weeks we’ve had her and has gone from 1.35kg to 1.78kg, and twice as naughty
The buns have been extremely tolerant and patient with her.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AUSSIES AND KIWIS OUT THERE !!!!!!!!! ?![]()
Merry Christmas!
Hoppy Christmas to everybun n bunparent, from Podge, Gina, Jenny, Pippi, Snickers, Minstrel, Latte and their hoomin family xxx
Happy Christmas, Binky-Bunners!! ???
Merry Christmas, everyone! I’ll have to wait until I can upload pictures to my computer, but Panda and Fernando did get to come into the family room with us this morning, and behaved very well, though Panda was in one of her shy moods and Fernando was in a chewy mood, nibbling on the towel that’d been laid out temporarily for them. They got quite a few goodies – fleece blankets, timothy mats, timothy chew twists, banana treats, grass balls.
merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, everybun! Hope Santa was good to all of you. Chewie and I filmed his epic repeat attempts at opening a parcel throughout the day, and then posted them on Instagram. Because we were bored. Or lazy. Possibly both. ![]()
Oh my goodness, nobody watch Me Before You, especially at Christmas.
Why do they do this to us!?! ![]()
Merry Christmas everybun! I’m so full ?
Merry Christmas everyone! ![]()
The hubby had to work yesterday, so I went and hung out with him at work for a few hours. They just got a fancy new coffee machine, and since I had nothing else to do, I decided to conduct a little experiment. I hardly ever drink coffee because it doesn’t seem to have an effect on me. The hubby never really believed it and kept saying that I just wasn’t drinking it fast enough. So yesterday I decided to find out once and for all, and guzzled down 10 shots of espresso. I felt nothing. That is, until several hours later when my insides got quite cranky and I started to feel painfully dehydrated. The hubby is pretty much the opposite, after one cup of coffee he’s usually bouncing off the walls, he said the amount of espresso I had would have probably done him in.
He was quite amazed. Even this morning I’m still feeling kinda sick, but that’s okay. I did it for science! ![]()
My MIL called the other day and told us that one of her dogs died.
He was in the backyard, and it seems that her neighbor’s dogs busted through her fence and pulled him into their yard. He didn’t survive his injuries. It’s very sad, but also infuriating, since the dog’s owner refuses to cover the vet bills. I don’t understand how people can be like this. ![]()
Az. I read it through tears….
Hazel. Your post made me laugh and very sad all in one.
For the coffee, hil.a.rious !!!!!! For the dog, surely that is a court case. MIL got photos and stuff, surely it’s clear that the dog didn’t self inflict those injuries.
Grrrrrrrrr
Oh no, that’s horrible! My condolences to you and your mum Hazel
I think that that dog should be tested by a behaviour expert, it may be a danger to humans as well. It’s horrible that the owner refuses to take responsibility, and I’m sure that your mum can make a case out of it. Dog attacks are usually reported to the police here, how’s that where you live?
I’m glad that Christmas and Sinterklaas are behind us, and I’m looking forward to spending New Year’s Eve together with Bas again. Been missing him long enough this month with all his family activities. Bas went to his parents for Christmas and he’ll be heading home again tomorrow. I was quite sad about having to miss all the festivities in December, because I can’t travel on my own now that my illness has gotten worse. Renting a car is out of the question too because they’re madly expensive. Bas offered to travel to his parents and drive their car back to pick me up for either Christmas or New Year’s Eve. That’s so sweet of him, because it’s 2,5 hours by train and then 2 hours by car back to our home town. I chose New Year’s Eve, because Christmas at Bas’ parents is always very busy. Personally, I’m more of a Sinterklaas person anyway.
A friend of ours wasn’t looking forward to the holidays as well, because he had a rough year with a break-up, a burn-out and the loss of his job. His parents aren’t supportive, so he didn’t want to travel all the way to be scowled at over Christmas dinner. I told him that he was welcome at my place, if he felt like it and had the energy for it. I promised that I’d buy something that you could portion easily, so that he wouldn’t feel any obligations. Yesterday he felt fit enough to leave the house, so we had Christmas dinner together. I made steak and spicy potato wedges with a sweet&sour red coleslaw. Glad that I could cook something nice for him, and he really appreciated the no-stress approach
He may become a bunny owner soon as well, because he has plans to find a new apartment together with a friend. This friend of his clearly stated that “There would be bunnies, or the deal was off…”. He gladly agreed ^_^
Traveled down to North Carolina again to spend the weekend with my parents, this was Panda and Fernando’s second visit to the NC coast. They’re becoming seasoned travelers, though Fernando was stubborn about getting in the carrier this morning so I finally had to pick him up and put him in; I’m afraid he was in a snit with me for the bulk of the return journey. As I recounted elsewhere, Santa brought them quite a few things, nothing really elaborate (maybe next year – I wanted to get them one of those bunny castles but my efficiency’s space is so limited) and they had, I’m pretty sure, their first true Christmas morning experience (poor Panda was likely in a bad situation last year, having been newly pregnant and likely just having been foisted off on the shelter, and Fernando was born along with his littermates in January).
So, we’re all back home in Manassas winding down (Fernando’s basically flopped out and Panda is taking her ease in her favorite hidey box); I have a short work week and Friday off, which is just as well because there’s apparently snow coming Saturday so I’ll have to get groceries, etc. on Friday. I was going to see about getting the buns’ nails trimmed at Friends of Rabbits this weekend but that may have to wait until next weekend if it does snow.

Oh my goodness, nobody watch Me Before You, especially at Christmas.![]()
Why do they do this to us!?!
![]()
That place is where Terry Pritchard (the awesome author) chose to wrap things up (I think…)
Oh, Hazel, I’m so sorry about your mom in-law’s doggie
She should definitely take action. That is NOT ok… not just the financial burden, but the violence underlying the neighbour’s dogs’ behaviour. Who’s to say they won’t do that to a kid walking his dog next time?
@Vienna and Q8, it’s a book?!?! How did I not know this? Going to have to head to the library to rectify that situation. More tears to come it seems.
Hazel, I’m very sorry to hear about your MIL’s dog, how awful
Had a foot x-ray today. Probably nothing but I’ve been getting quite a bit of pain on and off after work sometimes (beyond just tired feet/sore muscles). Doctor wanted to rule out a stress fracture, he didn’t seem too concerned though, results tomorrow.
Merry belated Christmas!
I’ve been out for a whole while and just got back on pc… How’s everyone doing?
Thanks guys. They pulled him through and then attacked him. The neighbors don’t actually deny that their dogs did it, but they say that they’re not liable because mil’s dog was on their property, as in, mil failed to keep her dog contained. ![]()
Animal Control came out at some point, I don’t know if the police got involved or not. She said she’s going to sue, and I really hope she goes through with it.
Oh no Hazel, how very sad.
Hopefully they have evidence to show what happened. It might be difficult to prove they pulled the little dog through the fence vs. the little dog going in to the neighbor’s yard willingly. Without evidence, it might be difficult for a judge to make a ruling.
Hazel, I’m so sorry, how dreadful!
Hi Muchelle! How is our favorite pirate doing?
Az, I hope your foot will be fine.
We’ve had a nice but completely snowless Christmas here.
Yay, for the first time in three years Breintje flopped right next to me on the couch. He did stretch out next to me once, but never a full-blown flop. I feel so honoured ^_^
He is one of those buns who’s always a bit on guard and who almost never stretches, let alone does a flop. If he does it, he does it on the floor, far away from people. Usually he’ll be upright immediately if someone moves or tries to take a pic.
Breintje was just loafing next to me on the couch, really close against my leg. I was stroking his left flank because he had some stomach issues this morning. Suddenly there was a heavy thud on my left side: he had flopped against my leg (very elegant). I continued to pet him, but he soon returned to loaf position. Still, it’s a really great first time!
Ellie, iwhat a lovely Christmas gift to you from Breintje ❤️️Bam has never flopped next to me. He gladly flops by my mother’s feet though. It’s such a beautiful display of complete trust.
@Hazel: omg let us know how it goes! I’m sure even the stupidest lawyer could get those cretins charged. And also poor dogs: at least here, if they’d be found guilty of being aggressive/dangerous they would be put down by the government. This seems such a clear case of s**t owners.
@bam: Pirate’s fine! He’s all fat and scruffy and for obvious reasons his molt is making me extra anxious. So much that I’ve established a mandatory pick-up-and-hand-strip party every 3 days. Also, for the first time in almost 4 years, I managed to snap a pic of him while he’s flopping. Gonna post that soon
He flops a lot after he gets brushed/stripped, so I guess he kinda likes it? XDD
I tend to flop a lot after I’ve stripped too…..

Awww, looking forward to that flop pic! I guess he does like it, loose fur must be really itchy. He may be twitchy during the removal process, but for many buns it’s the only way to get the hair out.
I put him on my legs, he gets into his lounging position and is really patient while I do it, just protests if I go too close to his feet or to his family jewels ahahah.
He absolutely hates being held/being above ground but he manages (also he gets a ton of treats afterwards….)
@Vienna: sometimes I flop even before I strip ahahaha
Haha tis the season for floppy bunnies apparently!!
My rabbits had a very stessful few days, they both get really wound up over people in the house, to the point we needed a vet visit and to put them in a confined area, layered with several blankets for the sake of those poor thumpers that were working over time!
We think its to do with their history that they are so afraid of people and we are working really hard at trying to make them more comfortable with people.
So it was a really nice moment when Yumi came out to greet my older brother who was visiting. She took such a shine to him that she dead bunny flopped beside him while grooming his hand.
I think it broke my poor boyfriends heart to see her so happy with another human !
Oh, that’s so sweet of Yumi! It sounds like they both been through a lot in the past
Hopefully they’ll get plenty of nice experiences from now on!
Are people making New Year’s Eve plans yet? I baked a big batch of oliebollen today, and put them in the freezer so they’ll keep fresh until sunday. Traditionally they’re baked on the 31st itself, but we’re going to my in-laws. I can’t make them there because their fryer is used for products containing gluten. Never tried to freeze oliebollen before, but a lot of people online say that it works perfectly. So fingers crossed!
I don’t now if I can be online before the end of the year again, so I’m wishing everyone a happy new year and all the best for 2018! ![]()
Aww, yay for Yumi getting comfortable <3 Such a brave baby!
As for this New Year’s Eve, me & bf are going to the seaside with a couple of friends
I never celebrated new year’s on the shore, hopefully it will be fun! We’re gonna spend a good part of tomorrow shopping & cooking so that we can travel and chill on the 31st.
Also, those oliebollen look awesome! Haven’t eaten them in a long time *drools* The mom of my ex (dutch) made them for me a couple of times back in the day =ç=
Hubby bought me a years subscription to photoshop for Christmas. Finally got that installed this morning so I’ll be editing some pics of Jasiri so I can finally share a whole bunch in the pics thread soon. Just having trouble with one of my memory cards now, it reads in camera but not in my laptop. Trying to sort that out. I have so many pics of her, most of them are blurry for some reason
New Years here will be spent at my brother’s, he has a pool, though I’m not sure the weather is going to be terribly well suited for swimming. Hubby will still swim probably, but it might not quite be warm enough for me.
I have so many pics of her, most of them are blurry for some reason
Generally…. too much alcohol. Hahaha.
Not sure if BB will let me on later, so Chewie and I wanted to wish our BB family a safe and fun New Year’s Eve and a jolly 2018. ![]()
Happy new year, everybunny!
Hoppy New Year! We had a fun but early night at my brother’s place. He’d had the blanket on the pool all week so it was beautiful and warm, so amazing
We left early because hubby wasn’t feeling well later in the night but was still good. I was really tired after (and after not getting long sleeps due to a little miss walking all over my face at 6:30 in the morning), so this morning got up around 6:30 to feed Jasiri and then went back to bed and ended up sleeping till around 10:30 which is amazing for me. But it felt so good.
I hope everyone is well.
Also I finally found the cable to connect my camera to my laptop, one of my memory cards wasn’t working in the laptop reader so I had to find the cable to do a direct transfer. I’ve got that going now. So I’ve got a big day of kitty photo editing ahead
Hopefully Apollo will come and hang out by my feet.
Happy New Year! Don’t forget to say “white rabbit” 3 times first thing!
