Hi! Ever since I’ve litter trained my rabbits, I’ve used wood shavings. It makes such a big mess though, but it’s the only thing they will do their business in. I’m not too experienced with different litters so I don’t know what to use differently that won’t make a mess and is easy to clean up. Any suggestions on what I should use that won’t make a mess? Thank you!

What type of litter box are you using? There are some types of litter boxes that contain the litter underneath, which I find are much less messy. I attached a picture of this type of litter box below.

Be aware that many wood shavings are harmful to buns.

I’m using a standard plastic litter box. I have two rabbits and when they hop out of it, it makes a mess. Ive tried putting a screen on top, but they will refuse to pee and poop there and go somewhere else.

I use the Carefresh paper bedding, but I have the same problem. For some reason, she sometimes kicks up the litter when she hops out of the littler box, and it makes a big mess. I’m actually looking into some type of enclosure that I can put her litter box in. It’s an ongoing dilemma!

I also use Carefresh paper bedding. Happily, my own two are generally good about not making a mess with the litter (it’s the hay they like to fling around!)

Have you tried sprinkling some of their poos and putting a urine-soaked napkin on the screen? They may be more willing to use it with a screen if some of their poos/pees are already there. Also, do you put hay in the box as well?

Good idea! I will try that! Yes, I do put a handful of hay in the litter box.

I use wood pellets now after using Carefresh for ages

These are the ones I use https://fetch.co.uk/back-to-nature-small-animal-paper-bedding-litter-30l-98500011?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgb2F3Yff2AIVz7vtCh2BTwW4EAQYAiABEgK7nfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

They don’t seem to fly everywhere like the Carefresh did.
