        Hey everybody!

I really want to build a maze to castle type thingy for the buns (and I imagine my cat would enjoy it too). But, I’m in a studio apartment, which basically already belongs to the bunnies. They’ve got their condo, plus a bunch of toys and tunnels strewn about.

I would love to build something for them that looks nice, lasts long, is safe (obviously), and that they will enjoy!

I’ve seen some tutorials on youtube, but they all either looked like a bunch of boxes (which I do NOT need a tutorial to figure out), or they seemed unsafe (one used paints and glues…. no thank you).

I love the look of wooden things. I could potentially get boards cut at the hardware store and then assemble at home.

Has any one done this that would like to share their plans?

Also, I’ve seen conflicting lists of safe woods… any one know some readily available woods that are for sure safe?

You could use untreated pine. While shredded pine is unsafe because of the pheonols, solid pine is fine

This sounds like a great project. Be sure to share piccies!

I cannot think of where Ive seen actual plans before, over the years. I did google cat castles today and found this though: http://www.goodshomedesign.com/diy-plywood-cat-castle/
Maybe a modified version of that would suit them? I didn’t look at the plans, so I cannot say if they’re any good or not.

Or are you looking to do something smaller like this?

Wow, that first one is amazing! But no way I would have space for that at the moment. Maybe some day when I have a bigger place.

The second one is more on par with what I was thinking! This would prob work in my current space: http://littlestrescue.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/bb.jpg

But oooh look at this: http://littlestrescue.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/627.jpg

Desk for the hoomans, with build in bunny hideouts!

Haha, I saw a different pic of that desk one yesterday. I think it’s made by a UK company.

Yeah, seems like all the really cool stuff is made by people in the UK. Not like I could afford any of it anyway

If you have the tools, you could find a book case and put it on its front, and cut in arches and holes and such.

                        That’s a great idea!

And I bet I could more easily find plans to make a book shelf to modify…. that way I could make it out of untreated pine.

Could it go up and over the condo like a mezzaine, with side and top panels of course so bunnies cannot jump out…. and then slopes down either side
                          Space saving ?

                            It’s Day-na

And I like that idea! I was imagining something that would connect to the side and utilize some dead space under my fish tank rack.

maybe use the plans for like a cat tower thing, then just modify it to be safer and just dont put the carpet type stuff over the wood. Just make sure you use all natural un treated wood. Do some research, some woods are not safe for rabbits. Id love to see a post about it when you are finshed!!

Do you have a pic of your fish tank rack or link to similar pic online? What us the dimensions of the space under it?

…out the side of the condo, under the fish tank and using cat tower type thingy to boing boing up to top mezzanine bridge for up and over condo and back down.
Woohoo, now that a vertical bunny maze !!!!

Ooooooh Vienna that would be so cool!

Here’s a photo of the space I have to work with.

I’m thinkin I could move the carrier under the fish tank and use that space somehow (although I do still need to be able to access the fish tank). I also have some dead space around the base of the cat tree.

I also may just do a stand alone castle/fort type thing, but it would be nice if it could slide into the spot where that white panel is, but then be moved when I need to clean the tank, feed the fish, etc.

Moose LOVES climbing, so it could be fun to modify the cat tower to make it safer for him.

Ikea have these untreated pine crates (knagglig) and Ive often wondered if those could be used to make up something.

This is the results from an image seach  that shows them being used to make a cat bed/condo, bookshelves and coffee table. The table idea could be made into a sort of maze/hidey house with some additional holes. It appears you can assemble them leaving off one side.
