Firstly, let me say I’m under no illusions that this will be easy, and I’m not going to rush it at all.

So Luna and Atlas have been bonded for a couple of months. I think they have a pretty strong and secure bond – no scuffling etc.

They live in the living room, in a custom built (by my dad ) wood and perspex pen, with time in the morning, evening and weekends to free roam the living room and kitchen.

Newbie [Nimbus most likely] lives in the bedroom in a puppy pen. There are always two closed doors between them, so even if either escaped their respective cages, they couldn’t get to each other (and none of them have ever escaped anyway, I’m just paranoid).

My question is, when should I bring Nimbus? into the living room and put him next to one of their perspex windows? Because its windows rather than bars, there’s no way to nip through them. Should I do some litter tray swapping before they see him? Or am I meant to have him next to them, then start the litter tray swapping?

Time is not an issue, I’m keen to take it very slow because I don’t want to disrupt Luna and Atlas’s bond, and it’s still a while before I’ll be able to neuter [Nimbus?]. So far, they don’t seem to have noticed strange bunny smells in the house (or if they have noticed, they’re not bothered), so I’m hoping they’ll just slowly become used to his smell, before I even start the pre-bonding, and before I do anything concrete.

My current plan is to keep Nimbus in the bedroom for a couple of weeks to settle in and get to know us. Then start some pre-bonding litter tray swapping, while keeping a very close eye on Luna and Atlas’s bond. Nimbus already has a couple of blankets that used to belong to Luna and Atlas, so he’s getting used to their smells.

I wouldnt start any prebonding until after Nimbus is neutered. A bunny’s smell changes as it reaches puberty, and then changes again after its been fixed. About two weeks after he has been fixed, you can bring him into the room and start doing prebonding by swapping their litter trays, food and water bowls, and all toys.

Thanks Mikey, I’ll leave it then. There’s no harm in getting him used to Luna and Atlas smells is there?

I dont think so since theyve been neutered/spayed and bonded for a while now
