This morning my bunny was pooping tiny cecal droppings. Then he didn’t poop at all. After a couple hours he started pooping normal poops but not often. Now there is RED colored poop. Is it’s blood? It’s not liquified or dripping. It’s mixed in with the poop. The strange thing is that throughout all of this the rabbit has been active. He’s been running around and bunking. But does this matter? Please someone tell me what’s wrong with my bunny’s poop? I’m making a new thread for this because I don’t know I’m panicking.

Please see a vet. You’ve been posting a bit frequently with some odd symptoms and it’s best that a professional assesses it. Your rabbit may have ingested something or has developed something and while it has not hindered his activity thus far, it should be addressed formally before it potentially manifests into something bad.

For the record, every time Wick has had an ailment, he still eats and is active, so that’s not the best sign of a 100% healthy rabbit. It’s good that he is, but I think you have a good amount of concerns to have him checked out.

I would see a vet asap if you suspect blood.

Red colored poop is definitely not normal. Your bunny may have eaten something or something else could be wrong. Either way, something is obviously wrong and your bunny should see a vet. Wick is correct about bunnies still being active, even if they are unwell. Since they are prey animals, they naturally hide signs of illness.

You started posting a lot of health problems regarding your bun after he swallowed several stray carpet pieces (get a rug and get a metal baby gate so your rabbit cant reach it; there is no excuse for this to keep happening). My guess is that one of the stray pieces he swallowed is lodged and causing internal damage (bleeding, which can lead to an eventual painful death if not treated asap). I dont mean to come off rude, but youve been putting off a vet visit for far too long. Your rabbit might die from this if you avoid the vet any longer.

I’m so sorry. It’s not rude at all. I don’t want my poor baby to suffer such pain. I need to tell my parents that he needs a vet visit. My dad said that its just because he ate something red or colored and that there isn’t blood because there isn’t actual liquid blood on top of it and it’s just red color solidly mixed in with the droppings. But I will take a sample of this poop to the vet tomorrow. You guys are right. Do you think the vet can fix this? Does he still have a chance? I’m going to take him to a veterinary clinic tomorrow but I don’t know if anyone there treats rabbits. I will see. I really do hope that he will be okay.

Its better to google your area and see if there are any rabbit vets around, first. A vet not qualified to work on rabbits can end up causing more harm than good. Here is a link that will show you all of the rabbit vets in the US: http://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Category:United_States
Just click on your state and it will bring up the list of known rabbit vets in your area. If youre not in the US, hopefully someone else knows another link to use.

Blood in poop can look like dye as well. It can also look like coffee grounds, goop, or even like a oil coat. Each type means something different inside the body, which is why its best to see a vet. If it does happen to be dye and not blood, you still need to figure out where the dye is coming from as many dyes are toxic to rabbits.

Its great that your family is willing to take him to the vet. Please keep us updated (((((VIBES)))))

The red poop is all of a sudden gone! I changed his litter box so I could monitor his droppings better. After a couple minutes I checked his litter box and found that all poop and pee was normal. I don’t know if this is the cause of it but i was feeding him Oxbow freeze dried strawberry pieces to him every day. I gave him about four in the morning and then after that it happened. Do you guys think I was giving him too many and that’s what caused it? I don’t think it could be anything else besides strawberries and blood. I didn’t give any the whole day and his poops were normal.

Is 12 bourse of no excercise bad for my bunny? Is this why he’s getting poop problems? I can’t let him out at night because I would be asleep but during the day I’m at school and he can’t get out. How can I address this problem? I’m the only person at home who knows how to take care of a rabbits.

Not enough exercise can cause health problems, poop problems and stasis being two of the many lack of exercise can cause. You can attach and exercise pen to his cage so he can be out while you are at school.

The red couldve been the freeze dried strawberries; I would stop feeding them to him if he is not digesting them well.

I really recommend you see a vet, still if you havent gone already.

                            Could be the strawberry treats…

Wick has the same treats and it has never dyed his poops, so please continue to monitor. And yes, the more exercise and free time your rabbit can have, the better. He’s like a dog; you wouldn’t want to leave it in a cage!

I think the pen idea sounds great. I will go out and buy one.

How often do you feed those treats to Wick?

I try to let him or as often as possible. The only problem is the poop. If he poops or pees around the house my mom will throw him out of the house. No kidding. I’m trying to litter train him but he’s still young and I can’t get him neutered yet.

The strawberry treats are his “high tier” treat, so the ones he gets when he’s been very good or he tolerated something well (i.e. a shot, nail clipping, etc.).

At most, he’ll get 4 of the pieces in a day since they all smoosh together and it’s hard to separate them, but since they’re so high in sugar and your rabbit is young, I don’t think it should be an every day treat, and on days you do give it, at most 3 a day.

Yeah I think that’s where I went wrong. I gave him like four to five pieces every day and I have them all at once. That must be what happened. Today I gave none.
