I have read several posts on bunny care after spay and the use of e-collar but I’m wondering if anyone could share how long they had to leave e-collar on their bunny. The vet told me 7 days but so far the incision site still looks the same as day 1. (They used the dissolving stitches and glue) I take the collar off bunny to let her groom but she always gets to the incision site and tries to bite and pull so I immediately put it back on her. She is “okay” with the collar on but she is a lot happier with it off. That being said, I know the collar is for her own safety and I don’t want her getting any infections or having to go back to get resewn. If anyone could share how long they had to keep the collar on their bunny I would appreciate it!

Luna wasn’t recommended a collar after her spay. How many days ago was she spayed? Did they give you pain meds to give her while she recovers? Chewing at the incision site can be a sign that she is in pain.

She was spayed 5 days ago and they gave pain meds for us to give her for the first three days. There’s a chunk of glue or something hard that is sticking out of the site and I think that is what she keeps trying to pull at. She seemed a lot better yesterday and stayed close to me everywhere I went. She is acting more like herself now which is great. I feel so bad that I had to get her spayed in the first place but I know it’s for the best to prevent future problems. I’m going to call the vet tomorrow and see what she says about the part sticking out on her belly. Thanks for your reply

Yeah, hopefully they can trim off that hard piece of glue. I could see a bunny wanting to get that off. I’ve never had a spayed bunny need a collar. But one of my boys had to wear once for a week after his neuter.

Yeah I was thinking they may need her to come in to trim it off. I really don’t want to have to take her back as she’ll be scared during the car ride and being back at the vet. Thanks for your reply and cute pics of the bunnies!
