        Hi –

I’ve had Ella for about 7 months now and am getting a feel for the kinds of greens she likes while also feeling like we’re in a bit of a rut.  I’m wondering if I might get some ideas from some of your bunnies.   I’ve currently got some really nice chard I’m feeding her and she’ll eat it but reluctantly and with what I read as her “disappointed” face.  Also do you feed your buns the same greens all the time or do you mix it up?  Are you really organized and have a routine rotation?

        Ella and I thank you!

Generally, my bunnies get the same ‘base’ veg, but then I try and top it up with some different herbs for variety.

So they always get romaine lettuce and spring greens, plus kale every other day, all of which I buy specially for them.

Then I vary it by adding one or two of: mint, parsley, coriander, basil, watercress, rosemary, rocket, spinach, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, or cucumber, depending on what I have about from my own cooking/salads.

I also have lots of herbs in a window box (which are starting to die now its winter) so that’s an easy way for me to add a bit of excitement, and herbs are always their favourite. When you give them variety it’s easy to see what bits they pick out first.

I also occasionally add a chopped up strawberry, or a few rings of carrot as a treat.

Lol when I tried chard on Thor she straight up spit it out. What a spoiled brat

Aside from things already mentioned, Thor also loves fennel (bulbs and sprigs), kale and dandelion greens

I’m so lazy I buy bags of mixed salad for my two (making sure they only contain bunny safe veggies of course) then I add things like kale, broccoli, spring greens etc just depending on what I buy. Bramble’s favourite thing in the whole world is broccoli, he will honest to god turn down sweet treats in favour of broccoli, Ron on the other hand would eat the apple/strawberry whatever else he is being offered

I’ve given Ella a couple of tastes of broccoli but have been nervous about making it part of the rotation because I read it can cause tummy upset?  How much do you give him at a time and has it ever caused a problem? I might be a little bolder with it!

I read a lot of stuff about diet because Bramble is so prone to tummy issues and apparently all the things we thing make buns gassy don’t (most of them anyway) they are veggies that might make humans gassy, but buns digestive systems are different to ours and actually they aren’t bothered. I give him one piece most nights and it never seems to cause a problem, in fact when he has a sore tummy its often the only thing he will eat when he first starts eating again because its his favourite thing. Rather oddly, our other bun, Ron who has never had any issues healthwise (since he came to live with us anyway) became ill after eating peppers for the first time and peppers are not something usually associated with tummy issues – I guess every bun is different

My buns always get a base salad of Romaine with another veggie. Morning and Supper it’s a different 2nd vegetable. I buy what’s available at the grocery store and try to rotate it as much as I can. Most frequently I give carrot tops, dandelion, collard greens, arugula and cilantro. Bok Choy once in a while. My buns love all of them.

My buns really like spinach, cilantro, romaine, broccoli, kale, and celery. We typically get one veggie at a time and alternate when theyve eaten it all. My Bombur has a sensitive tummy and more than once veg type a day upsets his tum.

@Kristyol Thanks, that is good to know!  I will work it into Ella’s rotation.  She seems to have a pretty robust stomach so far *knock on wood* and has never turned down food, even the stuff she obviously isn’t crazy about (like chard and basil).

I make a bun salad about every 3 to 4 days, and keep it in one of those plastic veggie keepers from Bed, Bath and Beyond. Her salad is almost always a mixture of green leaf, romaine, escarole, endive/chicory, and kale. When I can find good carrot tops, I put some of those on top, and on the rare occasion that dandelions are available, I add some of those too. She gets 2 salads a day, because she only gets pellets as a treat. Doing it this way works out best for our family because it makes it easier for other people, besides me, to feed her. And when I go on vacation, I just mix up enough salad for her caretaker to feed her.

My bunny always gets romaine lettuce. But I also usually have some sweet basil, mint, baby spinach, a little bit of celery and a baby carrot. I try to give him some variety and I switch I up between those veggies. But for the most part I will use the same veggies every day and my bunny seems totally fine about it, he’s healthy and happy!

Mine get romaine and thyme for breakfast every day and dill as as bedtime treat. For their dinner, at the mo they’re having coriander and carrot tops. I’m re-introducting veggies so not huge variety at the minute.
