I want to purchase a carrier for Poe and Annabel — mostly it would be used for vet visits or in case of emergency evacuation.  Their “home base” in my house  (they’re free roam most of the time) is a very large dog crate, so that’s not really suitable.  I can fold it down to take with me if we had to house them somewhere else, but it doesn’t fit in the car otherwise.  I know I should get a carrier that’s big enough to put them in together, since they’re very closely bonded.  And I imagine it’s important that the carrier not be too big, for safety’s sake on a car trip.  Poe and Annabel are about 4 pounds each.  What size carrier do you recommend I purchase?  Any other tips?

Wick’s carrier only fits him, but if you ever want something for long car rides, I have this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CLA12Y0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . I haven’t tested it out in the car with Wick yet, but it’s set-up in Wick’s space and he loved it when he first saw it. It’s really good quality. I got the medium, which gives Wick plenty of room to flop.

The only thing to be concerned about with fabric ones like Wick suggested is that they might chew through it if they’re chewy buns. We got Luna a nice fabric carrier and she destroyed it in one vet visit. She had to be brought home with us clutching it closed, which was really not ideal at all!

Atlas never chewed through his fabric one though. Now they’re bonded they’ll both go in a just a regular plastic cat carrier. Atlas is 1kg, and Luna is 2kg. It’s pretty snug, but I don’t use it for long journeys so I think it’s fine.

My two have a large cat carrier. It’s big enough for them to move and turn around whilst both in it. Peanut is just under 2kg and Buttercup is just over 2kg.

Thank you all. My Annabel is a big chewer. Poe not so much. I guess I’d be better off with a hard plastic carrier. Thanks again.

I use a hard carrier for my bun. It has a door in the front, and also most of the top opens up. My vet commented on how easy having an extra top door makes it, and it’s probably less stressful on the bun to not be dragged out the front. You might want to keep that in mind while you are buying one, especially since you might have two rabbits inside and only need to remove one.

We use a small dog carrier. It fits both of ours with a little space to spare and is easy enough to fit in the vehicle.
