Today I brought a bunny home bc the owner didn’t want him. His diet was REALLY bad… apple, carrot, bread were those that I saw and I know that they didn’t give him any hay. so the first thing that I did was providing some hay and vegetables and pellets, along with a little bit apple and carrot to not to suddenly change his diet. I got him in the after noon and it’s past midnight rn but he hasn’t pooped or urinated yet! ( He did eat his poop once tho) I think it’s been about 10 or 11 hours but nothing… I contacted a vet and he told me to give him water and massage his belly, and I’ve been doing it for like, 2 hours now, still nothing. Also, he’s not drinking any water. The vet is not available rn and there are no emergency vets in my town. idk if he has a problem or not but I’m worried… he seems fine and energetic tho. Like i said, it’s late at night here and I’m helpless
        please help me!
        .
He just pooped but it’s just a really tiny piece..
        .
        .
update: he urinated about 30 hours later than when we got him and later that night gave him a few drops of olive oil and that made him poop thankfully everything seems fine now

Do you know how old he is? Did he eat or drink anything after you offered him the food?

I don’t, but i know that he’s still young, probably still not 1 year old
He did eat all the things that I put for him, though I’m not sure if he ate much (compared to my other bunny) but he didn’t drink any water
Should I keep messaging his belly?

You can massage his belly gently now and then. You can perhaps dip the pieces of apple and carrot in water before serving them. If you make really thin slices and dip each one he’d get a bit of water in him.

Some buns can hold their pee quite a while if they feel insecure. It’s of course perfectly normal for a bun to feel insecure in a completely new environment.

If he’s only eaten and drunk very little, poops will be few and dry. The fact that there is any poop at all and that he’s eaten his cecals are very good signs.

You already know to change his diet gradually, it’s even more important if he’s feeling a bit overwhelmed, bunnies can be very reluctant to try new food and he absolutely does need food in him now to get his gut going.

That’s great that he ate! And he did poop a tiny bit – a tiny bit is better than nothing. Does he have both a bowl and a water bottle? Offer both in case he is only used to using one or the other. If he is active and not sitting hunched over, I think you can stop the belly massages for a little bit, just long enough to give him greater opportunity to drink water or use the restroom. You’re doing good though . His ears feel normal temperature too?

Adding a bit of pure no sugar added cranberry juice or apple juice into his water might help get him to drink.

rn i added some slices of apple and carrot to his water bowl, and if he still doesn’t drink, I’ll try mashing them and mixing them with water
