When we got Theo from the rescue, they told us she could not be with another bun and had to be by herself. Why could this be?

Like humans, some rabbits have a personality that isn’t suiting for bonding. Overly territorial, overly dominate, or just not being social-able. They could have done speed dates with the rabbits at the rescue and determined she was not compatible. I think if you want another rabbit and bring her elsewhere to scope out some candidates, you may have some luck.

Another item is if Theo is not fixed; in which case, yes, she must be by herself.

She’s probably exhibited aggression towards other buns, or maybe she’s got badly beaten up by another bun/other buns. So the shelter thought she’d be better off as an only bun in a household.
