So Cookie Dough got a vet visit just to make sure everything is fine after his neuter. I guess the remaining part of one of his testicles is sucked in. The vet pulled it out and said it’s healing fine but then it went back in. Has anyone heard of this happening after a neuter? The vet said to just check it and smell it because pee and stuff can get in and bacteria can grow. She said if it doesn’t drop down she might have to do surgery to cut off the skin and make it flat. My vet is experienced in rabbits but she hasn’t really seen this happen in other bunnies.

I’m confused… Neutering removes the testicles.

Do you mean she wasn’t able to complete the neuter because his testicles weren’t fully dropped? Or do you mean the scrotum (which is the sack that holds the testicles) is getting pulled inside the body?

I’m guessing you mean the second?

I’ve never heard of this, but sounds like your vet has a good plan of action!

Ya I think I mean the scrotum, its the skin that holds the testicles. Im not an expert on rabbit parts…

The scrotum/sack is fine to go in. If he has any actual testicle left, the vet didnt do it right. All three of my bunnies sucked their skin in after their neuter. No infections, no surgery needed. It eventually falls off/flattens on its own

Normally the sack shrivels up and goes bye-bye after some time. But if the bun sucks the empty pouvh in, as you’re saying, it could be a lovely envirenment for all kinds of nasties. I haven’t heard of this happening before. Keep a close eye and smell the area closely daily. Can you make the sucked-in sack come out with your fingers?

I don’t really know how to make the sack come out but my vet was able to pull it out but then it just went back in. Can my rabbit get sick if he gets bacteria growing in there or will he just be dirty and I have to clean him?

If there’s a wound and dirt gets in it, it can become infected. otherwise i think it will just get dirty. Could your vet show you how to clean it?

Your rabbit may have just sucked it back in because of the stressful environment. Before I had Bandit neutered, often if I was holding him he would suck them in, but when he was out and about and relaxed just lounging and playing they would drop. So it’s just as likely that it will drop again now that he’s home and more relaxed.

His neuter was 3 weeks ago so I’m not sure if it can still get infected. The vet said she can give us something in a syringe to squirt in there and flush it out but he has been pretty clean. She said that most of the muscle in that spot is removed in the neuter so she thought it was strange that he was pulling it in but I’ll have to check him again.
