Binky crossed the bridge on Wednesday morning 18th of October at 5:30 am. I haven’t written anything on here for a long time now and it saddens me that this will be my first thread in a long time. She was acting normally on the 17th in the morning and afternoon, eating normally, moving normally, acting normal. But when I went out again at about 6pm she was not right, she didn’t come to the door which is a huge warning sign, I found her huddled uncomfortably in the corner of her castle. I brought her inside, she had her blankets, a hot water bottle, water and hay. We then phoned the OOH vets to get her in, we managed to get her in at 9 pm. After what felt like an eternity she was seen at 10 pm and was diagnosed with the worst news – bloat. I broke down so much once the vet said the words, but I didn’t give up hope, she had said there was a small chance she would make it through and I took that chance. We left her there for 24/7 care during the night, she was on medication and an iv for fluids. We had signed for the vet to pts if she felt the bloat was expanding or if Binky had become in pain.

At 5:30 am the vets made the decision to put her to sleep, the bloat had expanded so much it was pushing on her lungs and she’d started to mouth breathe. They said she was fighting till the end and went peacefully with lots of pets. I am heart broken, it’s almost been a month and I still expect her to be there in the mornings, running to the door and around my feet. Binky was a stubborn little bun, so much character in her, and I had the pleasure of having her by my side for 5 years. I miss her, I will not forget her and the memories she gave me, she was a real diva! Always stamping her feet when I change her toys around, grabbing the food first and running, binkying as I try and herd her back inside. She was sweet at times too, letting me have the pleasure of bunny cuddles and nose bumps. I thought I’d share some photos of her, to remember the good times and to put a smile on other people’s faces like she did for me. x

I’m so very, very sorry for the loss of your beautiful friend. It’s so obvious by your words and the beautiful pictures she was very loved and was lucky to have you. I know the hurt you are feeling. It takes a long time, but the hurt will eventually be less painful and you will be left with her beautiful memories.

Did she leave behind a bonded buddy?

She did. Monte is still here, he is coping well on his own so far and there are plans for the near future to find another partner for him. For now we are trying to get rid of his snuffles or get it under control beforehand. I have thought about bringing Monte inside over winter, so he isn’t alone during the night but that is complicated due to the dogs but it may happen… I think it would be nice to have the comfort of knowing he’s not alone at night times.

              Poor you, poor Monte.

Limit, I am so so sorry. I am crying as I read this. Binky is beautiful and looks so much like Timothy, apart from Timothy being grey mix. Timothy passed suddenly a little over two months ago while I was at work. The guilt is still overwhelming me and I just can’t make peace with myself that he may have been in pain and that he died alone. I really do not think I will every come to terms with it. Why were these creatures made to be so beautiful, and yet so delicate? Perhaps because, like us, the angels love them too much…..?

So sorry to hear about your loss, but often there’s just nothing we can do except to ease their passing
It looks like she had the most wonderful life a bun could imagine. Every picture you posted radiates happiness.
I hope Monte will continue to do well after this big shock, and I think taking him indoors is a great idea (if the dogs cooperate).

                    Oh Limit. I’m so sorry.
She’s so beautiful. I know you’re hurting. Sending some nose rubs for Monte.

I’m so, so sorry to hear this. It’s always hard losing someone close to you. Once you lose them you always start wishing you could go back and change something-anything- so that this wouldn’t have happened. You start wishing that you had spent more time with them. That’s how I felt when I lost my two dear rabbits 3 months ago. But the truth is that you did everything and anything you could to have to give this beautiful rabbit the most amazing life that you could have. Each and everyday you gave all your love and care to these two buns. You did the right thing that night. She was able to pass peacefully across the rainbow bridge.

I know that you are hurting and I’m hurting to but I just want you to know that you gave Binky a wonderful life and I send you and Monte my love.

I read a poem once in a book (Touched by a rabbit) and I would like to share it with everyone now:

                      Rabbits are Angles:
                      Barbara Pollack

“Rabbits are angles, who exchange their wings for ears and come down to earth to teach us how to life and how to die. Let us give thanks to our teachers and honor them by remember our lessons”

Sending love to everyone out there who has ever loved a rabbit and lost one

I’m so very sorry that you had to say goodbye to Binky. She is beautiful. Her picture does put a smile on my face, she’s so pretty and looks so very happy.
Bloat is cruel. You handled it very wisely. It must’ve been tough not to be there with her, but you made the kindest decision for her.

I hope Monte will soon be cured of his snuffles.

Just saw this. I’m so sorry Limit. Binky will always be so beautiful. I’ll never forget the monthly pictures thread where you posted that cute pic of her praying to the carrot gods.
