        Hello,

Is it ok to move my 16 & 18 week old rabbits onto some vegetables? They have had the odd bit of carrot and kale but I would like to introduce vegetables into their diet full time because I am worried I am not feeding them enough.

I feed them ‘Fiber first’ and they have 3 sticks each in the morning and 3 at night (I put them in a log and stuff it with hay so that they have to work to get their food out). If I give anymore than 6 sticks a day, Percy, the miniature lop usually produces extra caecotrophes. I have had mixed information about this, in some places it suggests that it might be because he is young and thats why he doesn’t always eat all of his caecotrophes. With Herbert, Netherland Dwarf, we don’t seem to have this problem. Herbert feels a better weight than Percy though, Percys ribs are more prominent.

They always have unlimited Timothy Hay.

I was wondering if someone could recommend which vegetables to start introducing first please?

        Thank you.

Romaine lettuce is the safe go to for pretty much all rabbits. I have never heard of a rabbit not enjoying it and getting ill from large quantities, as it’s low in vitamins and minerals that may cause stomach upset.

Introducing a tiny bit of veggies daily is not bad, as long as you start slow. The real concern about introducing veggies is whether it decreases how much hay rabbits eat! The hay should still dominate by far.

Also, you mention multiple bun buns. Are they housed separately, and are they fixed/planning to be fixed?

Thank you, I will get some today!

Which other veggies would you recommend then please?

I am not overly concerned with they going off hay because they both love it and are very greedy, and their ‘pellets’ are sticks that are pretty much just hay.

Both rabbits are separated, they have a pre-op appointment on the Wednesday coming. We had problems with Herbert because there are no signs of testicles but Percy does have them. We would have had Percy done sooner but the vet didn’t want to do it until he turned 16 weeks old.

Wick wasn’t ready for neuter until 8mo, so no issues there.

There’s a list on this website of the safe and unsafe vegetables! https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/VeggieList/tabid/144/Default.aspx
