I’m asking this because I recently got my oldest boy fixed. When I went to make an appointment for my girl, Charm, my vets office told me they only will do male rabbits due to it being a quicker and simpler procedure. They said it’s because it’s hard to keep rabbits under anesthesia and it’s trickier to spay females.
What was said by them made me nervous about getting her fixed. But all the research online I’ve done says I should get her fixed to prevent hormone related health issues and uterine cancer.
My question is, should I ignore what that vet said and take her somewhere else to be fixed or is the risk of having a small female fixed really too great?
Btw- she is old enough. She is about 9 months old now, she’s just a very small rabbit.

The vet was responsible to tell you that yes, neutering is far easier than spaying, but they should have framed it better. If it’s a vet experienced with doing spays, there should be no issue doing it. Seeing another vet for a consultation is wise. Spaying females is a standard procedure so having a more experienced vet do the operation is wise!

Sounds like that particular vet/practice isn’t comfortable performing says so I’d go elsewhere. The risks of leaving her unspayed far outweigh the risks of spaying.

I would talk to another vet. Make sure he or she is rabbit savvy. If you are in US you can check out this site for vet listings:

I agree, seek a second opinion with a vet that performs a lot of rabbit spays.
Be sure not to let you boy be in with Charm just yet as the boys can still be fertile for a period of time after the neuter.
