        Hi al!

This probably has been asked before but my search function is not working at the moment.

Can I bring in fall leaves for Thor to play with? Is this safe? Background, she is an indoor only bunny but she LOVES to dig and play in crunchy things. We’ve made several dig boxes for her out of shredded paper and other safe material and it is always a hit. I’d love to bring in a box full of fall leaves for her to play around in. Our local trees are almost all maple and oak trees, would those be toxic to eat? I would only gather crunchy, freshly fallen leaves and I’m sure nobody sprays our trees.

Basically I want her to have fun, and love fall as much as I do but if it’s at all dangerous I won’t risk it!

I should think it was safe to play in, others may beg to differ.  I’d probably avoid oak but Maple should be okay..but wise not to let her eat them. If she sneaks in one or two, it shouldn’t be an issue.

The only other thing I’d do is grab the loose, dry leaves from the top of piles, not the mushy stuff underneath that’s already starting to compost.

Snow is fun for them to play in too, if you haven’t tried that before.

Here’s Baby Gooseman out and about on some Ash leaves. He’ll be 6 yrs old this month. : )

p.s. Search function seems to be out of order currently. I tend to use Google to do forum searches by putting site:binkybunny.com in the search box along with a keyword.

Oak is toxic so I’d be careful using those, but in general once leaves have fallen they often lose the toxicity that is in them, but if luna is like mine EVERYTHING must be tasted -_-
I think it’s a really cool idea though and maple and oak have very different leaves so theres no chance of confusing them! ( i may even copy your idea!…Im not a thief I swear)
Pika’s actually employ this method when storing plants in larders, leaving the toxic plants in storage the longest, allowing the toxic effect to fade and make them safe!

                  Thanks all

That is such a cute picture of Gooseman! And so cool about Pikas Dface! I wonder how they know how long to store them for?

As long as it doesn’t rain, I’ll try this out this weekend with some carefully selected leaves (my neighbors are going to think I’ve gone batty). I’ll try to take some pictures, but the curse of a black bunny is that all of them will probably turn out to look like a black blob is playing in some leaves…
