Hey, guys, long time fan here, but, never posted. Ok, our Mini lop, Thumper, turned 6 months yesterday. My wife is the primary caretaker. JUST NOW, we were alarmed to notice a patch of his fur missing from his back.

Looking closer, it seems to be maybe a rash. We’re nervous because my wife said that it WASN’T there last night. Otherwise, he is running around like normal work no other symptoms. Could anyone give us guidance please?? Thank you…

If you’re able to provide a picture, that’d be great.

A common cause could be Thumper is shedding in patches and he’s scratching bare skin. Another concern is obviously more bug-related and infection-related items.

Are you able to provide descriptors? Is it smooth, bumpy, dry & flaky, pale, pink, etc?

Yes, please describe in more detail! Sometimes rabbits do lose a patch/patches of fur when they shed. But in such cases, the bared skin should be smooth and soft, there mustn’t be any scabs or “dandruff”. The new hair should start to grow back within 10 days or so, like a fine, soft peachy fuzz. It looks weird, but is normal for buns.

              Hi NenesLop

I inserted the attachments for you.

It looks as if new fur is growing and some rabbits may get a bit of dry skin with a moult, but the flakes here look too similar to fur mite (cheyletiella), IMO.
It can be cleared up with some doses of Revolution over the next months. From personal experience, Revolution works better the ivermectin shots.

I agree with JerseyGirl. It looks like mites. That’s exactly the rash my boys had when they had mites. Bam suggested this to me, and it worked wonderfully, brush the area really well. He’ll enjoy the relief from the itching.

Please check out my posts about this. Has Thumper had any shots?? My rabbit had something similar and the doctor said it was ” necrotic ” . here’s the post, another member had a sad story with these spots. If you suspect that it is necrotic then please refrain from shots from here on out, her story is very sad. My rabbit’s hair did grow back after healing and it was the same color as her fur (sometimes it doesnt grow back or it grows back in different colors)

Let me add it was a spot at first, then it scabbed after. After I went to the vet and they shaved the spot, I was able to see the edges of the spots that I saw were raised were actually scabs forming. Before scabbing, it was only spots. There are pictures in the drop box that can help if it turns into scabs, picture pre-scab are on the post… Here are the after shaved/scab pictures are: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m9v3jlhgbv2t0zn/AADaLeB5gTjWqkPYqkYX5S_Va?dl=0

The x-rays are also about her one kidney . she is my special bun…

I’m quite vary of this because it is rare so it isn’t often brought up. Which is fine, but the other members story broke my heart. Don’t over panic, see what happens. If you become overly worried, go to the vet. Or try to further your search though google, which seems to be a horrid search for rabbit owners with those gory pictures..
