hi guys! my name is delaney, I just became the owner to a precious 8 week old Holland Lop named Mochi on Wednesday, and I already love him more than I could imagine. that being said, im really worried about him these past two days. it started a couple days ago with me noticing him scratching at his left ear that’s just recently flopped down when it was standing up, and he shakes his head quite a bit too and cleans that ear a lot. this is my first time owning a rabbit although I’ve wanted one for years and have done extensive research, I looked it up and I’ve found it could be mites. I’m super anxious it could be because I just got him and I’m so scared for anything bad to happen to him. I tried to look in his ear to see if there was any wax build up or anything to indicate mites, but he wasn’t really having it, so I guess I could try again to see if he won’t run away this time. I was just wondering if anyone had any insight as to if you’d think it really would be mites or if I should stop worrying too much and let it go? I was gonna take him to the vet on Wednesday once I get paid if it seems to be a serious thing but I wasn’t sure how to know!

It could be mites, but don’t worry they are easy to treat! Also baby buns and lop buns are known for scratching their ears a bit more than normal. It could be nothing, but as he is a new member of your household it would be a good idea to get him checked up by a vet anyways

thanks so much for replying!! I checked his ears just now with a flashlight while he was eating his pellets and I don’t see anything, but I’m still going to ask my mom if we can go to the vet tomorrow when I’m near my school where it is because he’s still scratching so I’m still worried. if I can’t see anything in his ears that doesn’t mean there aren’t any mites there right?

I have two Holland lops and they do indeed scratch their ears a lot. It’s mainly because they can’t really reach inside them. My vet said months ago it was totally normal.
