Hey guys! I just got my first bunny, Cookie. She is an adorable broken tort baby girl. I just joined binky bunny, but I have been reading posts here for a long time. Cookie is a holland lop. Cookie has already proven herself to be very sweet and brave. She’s such a lovely rabbit and I am so happy because of her and because I finally joined Binky Bunny

Thanks to ALL of you! I am so happy to finally have a rabbit and I can relate to Bladesmith – IKR!! She’s already (maybe) comfortable in her new  home and is hopping around her xpen right now. She won’t come out of her cage, though, and I don’t want to force her out but is it ok if she’s not having playtime? Sorry I know I should probably post in another forum

You’re doing the right thing by not forcing her out, but if you want to offer her a treat to coax her out of her cage and she is ok with it then that would be ok too. For bonding, I sat next to Luna’s cage and talked to her/played on my phone next to her until she felt more comfortable. If you are worried about her getting bored, then you could put some chews/toys in her cage too . Note: there are some toys that require supervision and might not want to be left in the cage (ie. toys that have parts that can unravel). Also, buns are crepuscular (most active around dawn and dusk) so it isn’t unusual for her to want to nap and just hang out most of the day – but playtime and plenty of non-cage time is still important once she is comfortable.

Ok thanks for the advice. I’ve just been hanging out in that room and leaving her cage door open so if she does feel like it she can come out. Also, the lady at the place told us to confine her to a small area until she is fully litter trained. I’ve been doing this, but should I be doing it?  I just feel that the place is too small and she can easily get bored. Feel free to tell me if I should just post this somewhere else.

Sorry, I don’t know much about litter training – Luna was already litter trained before I adopted her. And it’s fine to continue to post here, but you’ll likely get more advice specifically about litter training if you start a new topic in the “Diet and Care” forum. Creating a topic in the corresponding forum makes it easier for other members to find/read your post and give advice. And if you can’t decide which forum is the best place for a topic, it’s ok because usually a forum leader will move it for you .

Blueberries or Banana as treats to encourage her to come to you.

Bunnies will shank a bi**h to get to banana or blueberries.

Buns love bananas! But Cookie should be at least 6 months old before she is introduced to fruits, which should be fed sparingly because of their sugar content. There are a bunch of hay-based treats you can buy at the pet store. Just don’t buy anything that looks like trail mix, seeds, or yogurt drops. Stores sell these even though they are very bad for buns.
