So just 3 days ago I say poopy butt for my small bunny (1-year-old) and the next day it was kind of Diarrhea so we took her to vet and at vet she pooped find little bit liquidish ball, vet said it just food she needs more fibre. So today morning we had a look and she had a Vaginal prolapse as there was blood and doctor told us she had it. So we got her treated and they putted back and took her in, so later one she had another one and now she had another one, was told by vet. She is on meds for the parasite that making her poop and I thinking she is pushing poop too hard that’s why it coming out, other then that I don’t know why. so we have been told that they will have her for a night and see till next morning to see if she is going to make it or we have to put her down….. I am really close to them and it breaks my heart it tore me apart. So I was told that she is eating apple and banana and all but not hay as she needs fibre so they are force feeding her. Do you think she will make it? it just really heartbreaking that soo much stuff is happening in just a little time and I don’t even know now what to do. so her vaginal has prolapsed 3x now, I am just hoping that nothing happens to her now do you think they should give her stariods so it don’t come out anymore?

        Please help…..

          Hi
I just had a few questions for you.
Is the parasite they are treating her for Coccidia? Do you know what meds they put her on?
Are they giving her actual apple and banana or is it the apple/banana flavoured Critical Care formula? (Critical Care is the syringe feed formula often used). If it’s the actual fruit, I would ask they take that away and give only hay and the feed formula. A rabbit with loose stools shouldn’t be given fruit.
Are you sure it is vaginal prolapse she is getting, or is it a rectal prolapse?

Steroids are generally not recommended to be given to rabbits in most instances. I don’t know if that is something they give for other pets in these cases. I thought continual prolapses were corrected with surgery but I don’t know a whole lot about it, to be honest.

Im sorry in advance if it takes me a while to reply again. Im about to head out the door. Hopefully some of the other members will check in.  For what it’s worth, I do not think this is something she needs to be euthanised for. If they can get her poop back to being better formed, the other issue can be addressed then if it keeps occuring. It may resolve just by getting the poop right.

Sending many healing {{{vibes}}} out for your bunny!

              Thanks for the reply!!

So I am unsure of which exactly parasite it is, but I am pretty sure it coccidia.

About the vaginal prolapse, I am pretty sure about it as the thing is when we were showing it to her doctor she told me that her vagina.

So if she ate the real fruits and was not eating hay, so they force feed her with a syringe food with high fibre.

When I came in the afternoon she was just lying normally and calmly and it was just sad as I was petting her she was not even licking me or even eating stuff in front of me. Waiting for tomorrow allot, looking forward to good news, hopefully

The meds she is on I am not sure what is it, but they were 2 different meds in 2 bottle near her. And when I looked in one of the bottles it had some liquid. I am just hoping that near tomorrow because of meds and force feed, she kind of feels better and all so she don’t have vaginal prolapse again and gets recovery good. Hopefuly everthing goes a well because it would be trylly lonely without her.

I do belive too that if poop can get right other stuff will go away. But if it;s the stated how long does it take to heal up?

If one of the meds are causing the liquid poops which is causing all of these other problems for her, is it possible for the vet to use a different med that doesnt cause liquid poops? ((((((vibes))))))

It’s not really possible to say when her poop will get back to normal, because even if the parasites are killed off with a 7 day course of an antibiotic, commonly Albon (Sulfadimethoxine), there has been a disturbance of the normal and good bacteria and other microbes in the gut. This will need some time to repair itself, and 2 weeks are longer is not uncommon. The antibiotic you get for coccidiosis is not one of those that commonly cause stomach problems.

You will need to keep her on a fiber-rich diet from now on. Hay is very important for rabbits. If she has had constipation due to a diet lacking in fiber, it makes sense that the vaginal prolapse comes from her pushing too hard to get her poop out. Exercise is very important for the tummy, so she’d really benefit from out of the cage time so she can run around a bit every day. Can you get good quality rabbit pellets for her? (Availability of good pellets vary greatly between countries.)

Thanks Guys for the Vibes and blessing, it looks like a miracle this morning we got a text from Doc stating her vagina stayed overnight means it’s good, also this morning we visited her she was looking bright. Moving and all. She is been eating carrot and all fast compare to her hay which they told us that she just stock piled it and kept in the corner, so they force feed her high fibre diet. But she is still doing diarrhea, but not water but not even solid. I had a look close to the meds they have been feeding her if I am correct and can remeber carefully one called baycox and other called panacur.

So what we have is in our change normally her beading is bunch of hay, so he eats it and her pallets but she is really spoiled she sometimes in anger or if we don’t take her out she will start doing her ballet bowl around and flip it and ruin her pallet. And because we throw lot of bread everyday for birds to eat she just go out running and start eating it. Like you know junk food.

We got another bunny which is 3 human years old so we had her before this one, and so because she was lonely as her sister died within a year of having them by unknown reason as when we came to open them up in the morning we found her dead and she was fine the previous day. We thought of getting another one so she can have friends but the big one don’t like her for some reason and they fight. So we keep them in there own cage which is outside in the backyard and their both cages are huge.

What I do is one bunny stay out for a day then another one so they both can have equal time.

I’m glad she did ok overnight at the vet. Bread is not good for buns, so her digestive system would be better if she doesn’t eat it anymore. Maybe you could try to pick up the left over pieces before she runs outside? Luna sends get well vibes .

So here’s an update, Day 3 at Vet

They say with her diarrhea they have seen slight improvement but not much…. She is like pushing her vagina out today and her vagina is streched so they have stapled it… Doctor have said there is an option of surgery which is making out alive is low as because of diarrhea and other factors. And the option we left is see how is it goes. We are thinking of bringing her home so we can take care of her most of the day, give her lots of water and food. The other thing is she is suffering and it’s hurting our family allot. We just don’t know…. What personally I am thinking have her until monday and see how it goes and if not well… then we have to put her down because just because we want to have her doesn’t mean she has to suffer… Also it just it will be lonely… extremely lonely as out of our family I am really close and because not having many friends or anything they are the one who supports me, whenever I am down, I just look my bunnies and they just cheer my day but now I just don’t know… Her big sister will be lonely again…. Also, I don’t want her to have long-term pain or suffer plus it just soo much stuff is going on in just extremely short time and I just don’t know personally how I am going to coop with it… It’s like everything is over and nothing left now…

I’m very sorry you are going through this. The meds you have got are appropriate for coccidiosis. Surgery might not be a good option now when she’s weakened by diarrhea. Do the vets suggest you take her home?

CSB. Sorry you are going through this, I know how much these little bunnies can steal our hearts. My heart is aching for you (because my bunny is as emotionally important to me as my best friend)!

I wish you and your bunny peace.

                                Update :

So we have brought her home because the doctor said we can and we believe she will feel better as she is her surrounding and her home and will do better we are feeding her clinical care or something like that every hour. She is not eating much but my dad said to give her some time let her have some alone peacetime. But I just can’t stop sitting beside her. My dad has little-given hope to me as he said she has survived allot she can do it, as she was in way worse of before, he says with time she will heal we just have to care and said even a human needs time and all. Atm, we wipe and clean her butt every hour. So for her meds, they have given appropriate meds for her and we have to take her to the clinic in morning to she gets injected with anti-biotic and get painkiller as he said they work for 24Hr. But just praying she gets well. My nan encouraged me also as she said even doctors so many times told her that she won’t survive but she did(my nan). I just hope she gets well as it’s sad to see her in this condition

                                        Final Update –

On 25/10/17 she has passed away sometime in the early morning as I cleaned her and even kissed her head on 12 AM and I just can’t believe. My sister is really down and was a bad day. I am sad inside but also happy that her suffering has ended. She has died in peace, she has died in the place she loved, she has around the people she loved and cared for. Her name was Snow, was white mini lop and was 1 1/2 years old. She survives and suffered. She had her amazing time with us, so as we had an amazing time for her. Still, I am in deep shock about it, but I have another bunny which I have to make sure make her life a wonderful life. This morning when we were burying her, the other bunny bloom 4 years old came and she her sister, she came every day on deck and looked at her. She is all alone now again and so does my heart. Hope she has fun in heaven. Rest in peace Snow
