So I’ve had my rescue Addison for almost 2 months now. She is a pink eyed, white rabbit. Vet estimates about 6 months old. But just last week I noticed she got grey on her ears. I thought maybe she got into something and it was dust?? Tried rubbing it and nothing will come off. Then today, I noticed she had a little bit of the dark grey on her nose!

Is it possible for her to be getting grey patches so young?

Yep! Don’t think of it as grey hair from being old. Just gray hair! Wick’s fur pattern and coloration has changed a bit since I’ve had him. He’s lost a white patch and gained some as well.

Californian buns are all white, red eyes, with a black/dark brown nose, ears and feet. They’re also well known for changing color in the colder months, so they have darker dark patches during winter It sounds like Addison has some Californian rabbit in her genes, I bet if you look carefully at her feet or tail they have turned more grey as well?

Yes, it sounds like the ch gene got mixed in there somewhere. The gene is responsible for the coloring in Californian and Himalayan rabbits. It isn’t unusual for the coloring to develop later in mixes. And, as ThorBunny pointed out, the gene is temperature sensitive.

Yes as mentioned it’s perfectly normal. My boy Apollo has pale points, they are a little darker in winter but quite pale over summer. Certainly not full strength cali or himi points. I think the points are terribly cute

The exact same thing happened to my bun, Sterling. No idea his age but when I adopted him in the 2 summers ago he was completely white (not a REW, though, brown eyes) and then in the Fall started getting little dark hairs on his nose and ear tips. They’ve never gone away.
