        Hi y’all,

I currently have a six month old Netherland Dwarf, Scout, who has been neutered. I’ve been thinking about getting a female bun to try and bond with my current male. How would I go about this? I would most likely get the girl at 2 months old and I know females can’t be spayed usually until they’re six months. Would I have to keep them apart (and not start bonding process) until the girl is spayed? Any advice and guidance would be appreciated!

        Thanks!

          Hi,

You would need to keep them apart until she was spayed, as her hormones will cause problems otherwise, and it could end in a very nasty fight. This would mean you were committing to keeping them separate for at least 4/5 months, as you won’t be able to neuter until she’s 5/6 months, then she’ll need a month to recover and drain hormones.

The best thing to do would be to house them close to each other during this time, so that they can see and smell each other. You can also swap their litter trays, toys and blankets as pre-bonding. Make sure they can’t reach each other, there should be at least a 6 inch gap between their homes so they can’t bite each other.
