Hides for large bun?

I’m having a hard time finding hides and such for my Flemish giant. His estimated weight will be 18 lbs and I can’t find any that will be big enough for him. He already uses cat/dog beds because the beds for rabbits are much to small for him already, as well as a majority of the hides. I was wondering and things like the cardboard houses that are for sale on here will be too small as well I fear. So anyone have any ideas as to where to get cute hides and things for large buns? I can’t be the only person with this problem!

Our local rescue loves using upside down plastic laundry baskets as hides. They will cut out an opening on each side and then smooth edges. The bunnies love them. They think of them as “artificial bushes”, because the bunnies are hidden from the top and protected from most sides, but they can still see out.

I’ve also cut a few holes in the big cardboard boxes our hay gets delivered in, and they love those too.

Try using large, non-dyed cardboard boxes. They’re cheap, and a big one can fit any size of bunny. If you’re crafty, you can cut apart two or three of them to make your own bunny maze.

I’ve also been using large milk crate style storage cubes from Walmart. They’re very sturdy and can be cut with a saw, then sanded down. If you found a large one, you might be able to use it for a giant bunny.

You can try small cat towers, if possible? Nothing with a lot of layers, just something big enough bun can hop in and out.

These are all awesome ideas! My husband already thinks I’m crazy lol when he sees me putting a big laundry basket out in the perfect spot on my porch he’s gonna think I’ve gone off the deep end ? the laundry basket will be perfect tho for out there and I like the crate idea for inside. Then with a crate he can hop on top and inside

For Sprocket…he is a holland lop…so he isn’t the largest lol…actually Rookie was much bigger than him but I used some of these set ups for Rookie too that I now use for Sprocket.

I have a large toy chest that I got from Homesense and cut 2 holes at the two ends. I also have the bunny cottage from this site. And I have a cat tower that I put next to the bunny cottage so he can jump from one to the other without worrying about him falling on the way down.

Step stools , kids ikea or simular plastic tables and chairs , cat scratch climbers ( not safe if chewed though same as carpet – and the wood inside isn’t either so have to remove if they start chewing )
*Piping – the white drain type comes in large widths

A cat scratch post thing I thought about but idk because he pulls up the carpet in random places in the bedroom, but doesn’t eat it just digs and bites and pulls and leaves the pieces all around it. So I’m a bit scared he would ingest it. I definitely have to look into Ikea bc I want something that will last him now till he is bigger , so at least the next year so I don’t have to keep replacing it. I bought him one of the grass hide things that he seems to love but he won’t be able to fit into one much longer. Now how do you make a hide from a small table? I have about 4-5 small plastic tables that have metal legs on them but I don’t think he feels it would be a “hide” because they re very open on the sides. Maybe I’ll try moving furniture and putting it in a corner…hmmmm….

For your plastic table idea you could drill holes in it and thread strips of fleece through it that are knotted at the end. This makes it a bit more hidden but you can still see inside. Iv don’t this with a small step stool for my two bunnies. Originally I was going to buy a living world dome but didn’t like the idea of them only having one entrance hole because they are recently bonded. The only thing might be the length of the fleece, on mine it’s quite short so I don’t have to worry about any tangling. When I can get on a computer I’ll post a pic so you can get the idea.

Yes, I was thinking strips of fleece would work well too.   We had a member here do something like that by attaching strip of velcro to the furniture then sewing other strip to the fleece. So it makes like a removable curtain. I think it was something seen done for guinea pigs.  

I like the laundry basket idea suggested above. I reckon the cylindrical hampers would make good tunnels for larger rabbits too. Maybe line the part they run on with hay mats so they don’t snag a nail.
