So here in the UK the spider season has started, it happens end of September, early October, they get in your homes to get warm.

This evening I found one near the door, it was big enough to cover a peanut butter lid, I had to get my neighbour to get rid of it, I thanked him after and apologised for disturbing him on a Sunday evening.

Then I went to the kitchen to clean up, I saw some apples were left and went to give Olly a piece for a treat.

When I went back there was another spider, I was scared, it was on the floor, I wasn’t going to ask my neighbour again and ran into the bedroom looking for a box or make up tin I could put over it until a carer or someone came, I found the lid off my plastic cup, because of my eyesight being very poor, I dropped the lid but it missed the spider and it ran, I screamed, someone was knocking on my door, it was the young lady from across the road, she said she had been shopping with her Mum and there wasn’t any room in the freezer and asked if I would like some items, I said, “Spider, big, kitchen.” I couldn’t say anything else but that, she pushed me to the side and said she would get it because I was frozen to the spot, I was stood in the doorway and my next door neighbour’s brother asked how I was, I said. “Spider, big, kitchen.” He said. “No my brother got rid of it, calm down, its gone now.” Then he saw the lady from across the road emptying the hoover into the bin, I shouted.  “Spider, big, kitchen.” He came over to me and guided me to the gate, the lady told him it was gone, he asked how big it was, she said. “5 inches.” She wasn’t bothered.

It took me 20 minutes to go back in my home, I cut lemons in half and put it all on the floor near the door round the doorways etc.

So if you live in the UK, have you had any spiders yet? If so how big? Any tips for keeping them out?

How funny, because in Australia spider season is just starting! They get into your homes as the weather starts to warm up to get out of the heat and as other insects become more active! I hate spider season

I found a small black one inside yesterday and then last night I had horrible dreams about huge black spiders that I kept trying to stomp on but always missed! lol.

As a general rule I’m not a fan of insecticides and herbicides etc but at this time of year I like to spray around the outside of windows and doors to prevent spiders from entering the house. Otherwise I arm myself with a shoe (or my husband, lol).

Fall is spider season here! Lot’s of spiders come inside to escape the cold. If you’re interested in spiders, it’s also a good time to get out and look. We would always look for female wolf spiders in the fall. They look so weird with all their babies packed onto their back that you can’t even see mama spider (just her legs).

LBJ10, interested in spiders? Erm, no, Arachnophobic, yes, so bad I’m thinking about boarding up my windows and maybe building a metal cabin in my room and putting me and Olly in there, some people love spiders not me lol.

But… but… all the babies scatter from mom if you try to pick her up. ;p

I’m with you LBJ10, I love spiders Although I will still escort house spiders back outside, as my husband is quite afraid of them.

I used to work in an entomology lab studying wolf spiders – I was in charge of the “colony” so I saw my fair share of mamas carrying their babies on their back It is fairly icky the first time you look at them, but once you get used to them they are rather interesting.
