Just a pretty funny and odd thing, Autumn started binkying when I turned on ‘Police Sergeant Blues’ by Robert Wilkins. Done way back in the 20’s, I was playing a playlist that had it in. Not the happiest of songs, in fact it’s bleak but she seems to love it. It’s rare a song makes her binky but she also had her ears pointed forward to listen  could it be the higher pitched voice, or maybe the mellow sounding guitar?  The link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sttDigJjcZU

Aw I went to the link hoping for a video of a dancing bunny Great song. That’s so odd, I remember some older threads about which music different bunnies like, some were metal fans! I’ve never known Thor to react to music, but perhaps she’s a bit deaf.

Thank for the reply, I would like to catch her binkying one day but it happens so fast. That’s interesting, I don’t believe they can only perceive one note at a time as it wouldn’t be much use in the wild which means they may actually enjoy some types of music. Is she otherwise ok health wise?

Oh yes she is very happy and healthy

I’m not sure if she is deaf or just really blasé about noise. She does react to really loud things but that’s about it. It’s actually hilarious since she’ll chase our very loud vacuum around the room, defending her precious territory. The vet says ear ears look fine. The woman at the rescue shelter we got her from thinks that all lops have some form of hearing loss ranging from a small amount to totally deaf.

Anyone else have buns who love particular genres of music?

Hahaha, I tried it out on Breintje, and he perked up his ears and opened his eyes wide. When I turned it off he put his ears down again and calmly lay back. Wilkins does have a distinctive voice, it’s quite nasal. Maybe they react to that?

I can imagine that lops hear differently than other buns. Maybe the shape of their ears blocks off more sounds?

@Dasher: I’m totally imagining jingle buns! Very cute

I’ve never seen Breintje especially like a genre, but he has strong dislikes. He reacts differently to different metal genres, it’s very funny how he can tell them apart. When I play symphonic metal, folk metal or even melodic death metal he’s totally fine with it, but as soon as I put on thrash metal he’s in his box moping. Putting on stuff like Metallica or Slayer will get me “the butt”, and when I put on something else he just resumes his normal business.
I don’t think it’s in the extreme vocals because he doesn’t flinch at death metal grunts, or soprano vocals in symphonic metal. Guitar solos or high-pitched instruments like flutes and violins also don’t get a reaction. Maybe it’s something to do with the sudden rhythm changes in thrash metal music? Or maybe he’s just a critic, who can ever tell with all that sass?

Thor- that’s funny, some rabbits will go up against things much bigger than them.

Dasher- ‘Dashing through the snow. On a one-horse open sleigh, Over the fields we go, Laughing all the way’ perhaps there’s a connection

Ellie- maybe. Autumn will tolerate metal but she’s not a fan, most rock/ metal I play in a different room to not upset her. strangely she seems to understand Ragtime music and likes it but she hates grunge music unfortuately

Have you ever herd of the nine inch nails song Hurt? A deep voiced country singer re-did that song and it sounds awesome. Reese likes the re-did version of it, she will listen very closely. She also likes the cello version done by 2Cellos. 2Cellos are soooo good and I have no idea how they are that good.
Here is a link to the 2cellos one, because I don’t know the link to the other ones because we listened to it on amazon music.

Sorry they are making weird faces, everyone has a different face they make when playing music.

Do you mean the Johnny Cash version? That was even better than the original, truly impressive!

                          Yes!!! That is the best.
His song can make you feel sad enough to cry, just because of the way he sings it.

The video belonging to the song also adds to it. You can clearly see how old and frail he had become. He passed away not long after :'(

You bet! I like both versions. Don’t remember who recorded Cash but they begged him to cover that song, he was ill and lost his wife not long before if I recall correctly. He always had a unique voice, and he felt every word of that song.

How cute! I don’t think Bertha has ever reacted positively to music. She either ignores it, or gets alarmed, runs to the top of the condo, and starts thumping! I think there is often something about the bass-line that she thinks is another rabbit thumping!
